ticking sound?
im getting an odd ticking sound - sounds sorta like a baseball card in a bike's spokes, but more dull metallic. sounds like a really loud injector or maybe what a small exhaust leak would sound like. only thing that confuses me is that it's not seriously audible until about 1.2 bar. below that, it can be heard, but not very well. sometimes it takes until about 1.4-1.6 bar to get loud, but usually about 1.2. speed changes with RPMs.
any ideas? what to look for? i just had 3 of 4 injectors changed because they were leaking; this problem appeared last friday, 2 1/2 weeks after the injectors were changed.

1. does it sound were the waste gate is?? Drive the car next to a wall or thick bushes.
2. Do you lose power? Does the car run the same.

Just one question for you, why did you only replace 3 of the 4 injectors and not all 4? Yea, first is fine out where it is coming from. Can you hear it with the hood open? Is it coming from the injector area?

its from the injector side. i have yet to open the hood and listen to it.
i only replaced 3 because their bodies were leaking gas. not the seals, but the bodies themselves where the metal meets plastic.
there seems to be absolutely zero performance loss. the first time i ever noticed it was when i took a hard right hand turn.

I am by no means an expert but u say it happens with boost, and its volume is relative to how much boost. My first thought when reading this thread is the turbo fan blades (spokes) touching the housing (card). Might want to put your ear on the turbo, use a long screw driver between it and your ear, and listen. Your signature says u have the stock waste gate, disable it by pulling the easiest to get to end of its hose and plug your vaccuum/boost source, or just clamp it. Carefully road test it don't over boost it and listen for your card/spoke noise.

Would u describe the noise as metallic or more like an air/exhaust type leak. When I purchased my 951 the salesman said it had a new turbo. Later while troubleshooting the lack of boost, I removed the BOV and inside I found lots of shiny metal particles inside, probably old turbo fan blades pieces.
They were about the same size as pepper from a hand grinder. I hope your problem turns out to be something cheaper, but you might want to try to look inside yours, good luck.

Sounds like a lifter is going. I get the same noise (in boost) and it comes from the cam tower. If it is really loud i would get worried because if a lifter goes your motor could blow up or you could eat a valve, not to mention the lots of metal parts flying around in the head and cam tower.

Check that the exhaust manifold bolts are tight and/or the gasket hasn't disiintegrated. It happened to me at the track, loost bolt and part of the gasket flew apart.

got it!
here's the culprit! i also added oil to above the full mark. lifters have never been so quiet - the turbo is a lot more audible now!
