Probably even easier than pulling the boot back. I probably should have thought of that.

Ted, you just installed Ballast resistors. Check them as well.. A popping in the intake means lean condition.. As long as you can repeat the problem, it'll be easy to find and fix. You will make the dyno on Monday, so get some sleep

Mike, thanks for the pic and info!

John, this is why I am stressing. I MUST make it to the dyno on Monday and I am about 4.5 hours away right now! SuperTool soldered the resistors so I would think they are fine, but I will double check them.

I had a problem like that a while back and it turned out to be the AFM connector. I removed the AFM connector and the bulkhead connector John provided and spliced the cars harness into the MAF pigtail. Problem solved.
The engine wireing harness on these cars are getting old and brittle, I'm going
to build a new one this coming winter I think.

We have narrowed it down to a fuel delivery problem. The rail was just replaced with a used one and the dampner was still on it, so I used it. I figured maybe that was the problem, but after swapping it out with a known good one I am still having the same issue. I have a nearly brand new bosch 3bar FPR, and the injectors, fuel pump and filter are brand new (1000 miles or so). To test if the injectors were getting power or not I unhooked and reconnected each clip while the car was idling. I am guessing that all the injectors are working because when I unhooked each one the car would stumble a little and then clear up when I reconnected it. Each injector responded the same way.

What else could it be?

Check for leaks in the intake, or missing vacuum line connections. Double check the ones you removed to install the fuel rail, it sounds like you are running fine in normally aspirated mode, indicating an air leak somewhere. Also check the aftermarket wiring you have done, the problem is likely to be something you caused as opposed to a failure of something random.

Well, SuperTool figured it out!

Problem: BRAND NEW Bosch 3-bar FPR had failed!!

Purchased just 3 months ago!!

It is funny, most 951's fail because of old tired parts. Nope, not mine! Every problem that I have had with this car SINCE I BOUGHT IT was with a new part. (. . .and all Bosch parts at that!)

I have to say some more nice things about Vitesse: Even when John was sure it was not a problem with his products, he was more than happy to take my calls on his cell phone to try to get me back up and running again!!
