Engine Break In: What to do?
#18
If you didn't replace the rings then what is there to break in?? You certainly are not going to break in the bearings or valves. So get oil pressure and let it rip. Worry about nothing as long as it was assmebled correctly you will be fine.
I have built many Porsche engines over the years, air cooled, water cooled, turbo and not. The only time you need to run anything in is when you have freash/new cylinders and rings. The amount of break in is dependant on the finish honing of the cylinders. Mine require 15-20 mins. on a chassis dyno at verying rpm and then the pulls start.
No new rings means you can use Mobil 1 or whatever synthetic you use from the start.

New rings on untouched cylinders? Use dino oil and give it 500 miles. Change oil and filter and you should be good to go.
Just curious, why did you replace the rings? And did you measure cylinder out-of-round while doing this?
