Default oil pan gasket

I was just looking around under my car when I noticed a couple of cracks about 1 1/2 inch's long on my oil pan gasket. The leak must be realy, realy small because I haven't noticed a drop in oil. With something like that, how much longer do you guys think I drive the car intill I need to change it.

It depends, mine was 'seeping' oil for a few months and drove it normally, untill it got serious and starting dripping on the floor.

If it works, don't mess with it. Trust me. An oil pan gasket is a major undertaking and I'm dreading it so much on my car I may just sell the car instead.

You cant sell your car after 4 posts on Rennlist! You have years of throwing your money into the rubbish bin before you sell up!

It is not easy, but it can be done. All you need is the gasket and a hole weeked to complete. You would also need to perform a aligment on the front wheels.

Regards,
AL

Took the independed specialist 7 hours to replace the oil pan gasket and didn't align the front wheels (but after 3,000kms i went in for alignment anways, but the car wasn't wondering left nor right after the job). Guess it depends.......

You should replace the rod bearings "while you're in there". . .

Oil pans are easy!!!!

Just gotta start off with a steaming hot cup o' tea...

And end off with an icecold beer(*)!!!

* - If your engine is in the car as mine was not, substitute "a case of beer" for "a beer".

It can be done. It isn't difficult, just time consuming. Lots of parts must come off but if you are careful, and mark everything, you won't need to re-align. I left the control arms on the car and unscrewed the tie rod ends (after marking them so I could get them back on in the same place).

Rod bearings are a breeze once the oil pan is off.
