I'm looking for one that can get higher than the scissor oem jack.

Sounds good.

I even managed to find enough change in the couch for some good beer.

Daniel, how are things going? I wish I could make it over there, but I can't fit it in.

It's going pretty.

Meaning, most things are coming apart easily. We'll see how the assembly goes.

Miks and Sam came over yesterday and brought a couple of floor jacks to make life easier. I progressed slowly following my printed instructions from Clarks Garage. Most things came apart easily and Mike explained alot as we moved along.

The only hard part were the head nuts. We had to use the lever from the floor jack to get enough force to turn the nuts. I thought I broke the socket drive a couple times (even though they are sold be the other Evil Empire (Home Depot), my Husky tools held up very well).

I paused yesterday before removing the bolts joining the h eader and cross-over pipes. A couple of the bolts came easy enough but it was getting dark.

All that should be left are the exhaust bolts and pulling the head.

I have a half-written arictle on head R&R -- but it sounds like you are almost there. The thing that tripped me up was the coolant neck/cv bracket at the back of the head. The head gets stuck by a bunch of hoses and harness wires that get trapped by the coolant neck/cv bracket. Here's a pic I will use in my article, once I finish it, showing the essence of the issue....

If it wasn't for Mike pointing that out, It would have been an issue for me as well.

Not to barge in on this thread but I have removed the old Cyc valve bracket
So I have to go with 10-15mm M8 bolts instead of the stock 20mm ..
I was having such a problem with getting those
F#@$ bolts off that waterneck bracket/Cyc valve bracket combo
I was thinking it would be much easier to use allen head bolts in place of the
standard hex heads
What do you guys think ??? Any problems with subbing those for allen heads ??
Thanks in advance
Regards
Ed

Eddie, from my amateur perspective, I don't see too many problems. The only thing I can think of is the fact that the allen head might be smaller than the hex head and you might need a washer to redistribute the load a bit. That is just speculation, but I would check that out.

Just saw this.... funny I never got an email on this thread
Thanks Max
I think I am going that route
It would be so much easier to use an allen head in that application.

Ed
