crankshaft cleaning after drilling?
Just got my crankshaft back from the shop after being drilled, polished, balanced, etc. On inspection, found that there is still quite a bit of metal inside leftover from machining.
How can I properly clean this out?
Current plan is to use air and water.

that and some brake parts cleaner. I usually buy some pipe cleaner brushes at the local smoke shop and run them through the passages as well. Lots of air too!

I bought a set of dedicated engine cleaning brushes from Summit -- like super pipe-cleaners made for cleaning oil passages and such. You can get all the way into the oil holes of the crank this way -- when used with brakecleen, you can be sure you've got all the junk out.

Mitch, I had it done through Fordahl Motorsports in Bellevue, WA. He has them cross-drilled 3/16" on #2 and #3 only.
He's done some flow testing and lifetime testing and this seems to work quite well along with a few other minor mods like using the S2 baffle and welding a ring around the oil pickup screen to keep from sucking air.
Greg's a superstar in the Porsche racing community as a crew chief - something about the winning Daytona and Le Mans teams this year and many others ala Alex Jobs and other teams.

This is what I mean about some of these ********... imagine being in business and leaving ****ing shavings INSIDE someone's crank - and STILL the guy brags about how ****ing great you are. ONLY IN THE PORSCHE WORLD does this happen, ladies.

That's kinda fair I guess - I was a little bummed when I got it back. That said, I haven't heard from anyone yet who says their crank was plug-n-play either. I think I'd clean it thoroughly even if I didn't see anything.
