ow many people think you need a gasket on the inlet of the Tial WG?

No, its between the valve seat flange and the adapter plate. The valve seat itself is a seperate circular piece that is inserted/sandwiched between the flange and the plate. The conjecture is that its the hammering of the valve seat inset that destroys the gasket

NZ maybe you could sketch a picture of what you are trying to communicate here before chaos reigns.

Both my SFR tial to adaptor plate gaskets failed (as did most of the other UK users in the group buy). I think the papery stuff burns away leaving the metal centre, this also means the Tial works loose and falls off. I cleaned the ash and soot from the gasket metal inner and I used Firegum (exhaust paste) on the gaskets and added some spring washers and so far it hasn't fallen off again. I kow of others running without gaskets.

Hmmm, how about using a .5mm diy cooper gasket ?
