exactly what I had in mind. My compressor pumps out 150 psi but I have a small regulator I can plug into the end of the hose. anything over 20 lbs would be over kill for what I am doing

No and I did have that thing off the other day when I was trying to diag what I thought to be a bad TPS (it turned out to be bad plug wires). I remember thinking on a Sunday tomorrow I need to get a new o-ring this one looks all flattened out.
Ad that to my list of "need to be replaced old rubber parts"

I would change that out before you mess around with anything else. It is super easy, and if you have checked everything else, it is more than likely your problem.

if your doing silicone, search for my silicone connectors part two thread. everything you need to order em. I'm gonna put my money on the hose coming off the turbo, those like to split in the back, replace it too, 20 sum bucks i think.

When you use a pressure tester have some soapy water to spray on any suspect connections. You'll see bubbles where it leaks. I made my own tester with a standard adj. air valve and gauge. I just plug my air compressor in and adjust for ~15psi.
Another hose to check is the turbo to ic pipe hose. It oftens splits underneath the bend and is difficult to notice by a quick visual inspection.

At Autozone and I think Advance Auto Parts they "rent" (you buy the tool then when you return it they give you all your money back, it's pretty cool) a coolant system tester which would be perfect. It is basically a hand pump that has a presure gauge on it and at the end where the air comes out it has a rubber cone. So bascially it can fit any size hole up to the max size of the cone.
Hope this helps,

My friend's GTI had the same problem, he was using REVO, and I guess pushing upwards of 21lbs of boost. The intercooler hose connecter actually kept popping off! and it sounded just like the sound you are experiencing, I doubt this is your problem. good luck with finding it!
