Need rear coilover shocks
Hi,
I have rear coilovers with rear torsion bars removed, but the dampeners need replacement (they are the old Huntley setup). I know Paragon and Racers Edge are my options. Any other opytions out there?

They are Carrera. I don't want to repeat my mistakes. I want other options.
I was not too impressed when I spoke to Carrera about a year ago about fixing the front shocks. (Since then I think QA1 bought out Carrera.) Never the less, their durability leaves ALOT to be desired. My fronts were blown within 2 PCA DE weekends. That's right 2- that's on a track car!!

I also run Carrera coilovers, and have not experienced the same problems you have. I have had dealings with QA1 and been satisfied that the are trying very hard to make customers happy. When Carrera was selling I also thought they were less than helpful.

ditch those shocks ASAP!!!!
they broke on my car (the shocks shaft).. had it been on the highway or at a bad time it could have gotten me killed..

I have been running the QA1 rear coilovers and hypercoil springs from KLA and love them. They can be pieced milled at your hotrod shop for about $100 less though.
I set them up to leangth I wanted the car to sit (= to the front) and installed them and have ran them for about 8000 miles with out having to hassle with the torsion bars.

Dave, is it possible to use the KLA kit without torsion bars? Do you just get higher rate springs and take the torsion bars out, or is it more complicated than that?

KLA will tell you that they are not recommended as stand alones, only meant to be used in supplement to the t-bars.
There are certain people on here who do not like the KLA/Qa1 coil-overs, but I have had no problems with them myself. My T-bars are re-indexed and I am running 400lb springs on the KLA's.

I am running the 100lb or 200lb springs with out reindexing the t bars. I cannot remember what I bought. The ride is a little stiff but in no way rough. I wanted them coils to get rid of the "sea saw" motion every time I shifted. But the way it handles in corners is just awesome. It greatly minimized the body roll.
The only bad thing is running them right side up. It is hard to make adjustments with the locking rings up in the socket the shocks go in. KLA sells a inverted kit but it is way over priced. Also I recomend the "helper springs" to keep the coil spring from clainging on some bumps and drive way entrences. Again KLA sells these at a HIGH price.
I too do not recommended running them as stand alones. Most tracks are somewhat smooth but I think the stress on the bottom bolt hitting rough streets and pot holes would be a bad thing on every day street applications.

I will probably go with these Bilsteins in the future. I can get them for $285 each + the springs of my choice for $80 a pair. Thats $650 and $109.90 cheaper for BILSTEINS!!!!

Do those use the same standard 2.5 inch springs? Do you have the adjustability and valving specs? Do they take a special mounting bolt for the bottom mount?
