Default Sizing a garrett hotside?

Any tips on choosing a garrett hotside? I'm looking for general tips like what A/R one might use for 2.5 or 2.8l 280-350whp. There is alot of info about choosing the compressor but not much for the hotside.

That's tough info to get hold off. You would see turbo
vendors selling hybrids claiming example 500hp. But
if it uses a smaller turbine or a smaller hot housing,
for sure it will not make the 500 hp that the compressor
can deliver. For Garrett T3/4 hybrids, Stage III turbine
in .63 AR should work well for the 2.5. For 2.8 you
would have to go to something like P trim turbine.
Don't lie to yourself. If you ever go 2.8L 350 rwhp will
not be enough for you. Power is addictive.

This is so true.... Just the notion of being able to drive my car again is a addictive thought (maybe in a month or so ).

On my GT30R, I choose to go with a .63 A/R on my 2.5 L. Once its running, I can post about my experience with it.

Joel: Bear in mind that even though some Garretts have the KKK bolt pattern, it doesn't mean that there will be no fittment issues. You would need new flanges for the cross-over pipe and probably downpipe as well (T4 hotside).

Yes, the flanges are available and I would suppose it would simply be a matter of cutting off the KKK flanges and welding the Garret ones on. There are also V-band flanges which might be even easier. Some grinding might be needed on the turbo mount.

As for power being addictive, that only goes as far as dealing with the cost and annoyance of a blown motor or three and all the car downtime. These days I'm into useable, reliable power. Saying "yeah my car would be really fast... if it was running" is only fun the first few times.

I can meet my HP goals with a KKK replica #8 hotside but still I am curious about Garrett.

Thanks for the info so far.
