Default Has anybody ever used these guys ?

I am looking to do some plating on a # of parts on my car and was wondering if anybody was as crazy as I am ...
Has anyone gotten things on they car plated ( zinc-gold ) ?
If so, could you tell me whether you were happy with the end result and what prep wk did you do before sending it to them?
The place that I was thinksing of using is called Burbank Plating ..
http://www.burbankplating.com/
They seem to have a big operation.
The down side is that they have a minimum order of 100 bucks.
Which to me is pretty steep, if you are only doing a few parts.
Otherwise its not to bad ..
So has anyone used these guys or anyone else for that matter ?
I would love to get some advice

Thanks in advance
Regard
Ed

I've used a few local shops to do zinc plating. The minimum price is because they plate in runs - you pay for the run, and anything you can fit in that run's basket is the same price. Better to get a bunch of parts together and plate all at once, so the per-item cost goes way down.

no the top part that the dist cap mounts on. I also have an excellent in on powder coating. One of my customers that builds street rods does it, he redid my IC tubes after my engine fire with excellent results.

$100 minimum seems to be the going rate. I've had engine parts and bolts yellow zinc plated. Even the fuel rail and regulator and damper. Check my Pcar profile...

I wanted to get the headlight bar done but it seems there may be a problem with the linkage. I think it is pressfit on so I would not be able to disconnect it ??
Unless I am missing something

Ed,

The factory parts are gold cadmium plated. Yellow zinc plating looks similar but is not as durable. Due to the hazmat issue, you will find more zinc plating shops than cad plating shops. When replating on my car, I prefer the cad. I use a shop in Menlo Park. Just off of the Dunbarton Bridge.

Actually, according to Burbank's website, Tin-Zinc is the best coating. It is more corrosion resistant than Cadmium and it doesn't harm the environment as much. It probably doesn't look really cool, but who cares.

Bill and Max
Jeezz
I have heard so many diff stories on this issue
First, I thought is was Cad. In fact Tom M. had done a thread on this not to long ago and it was said that the plating on our cars is gold Zinc ...
I really should just check into the nearest mental hosp ...
This is crazy, what I am doing ...
I was hoping to get this over to the Plater today ... I am concerned about a few items
It's probably ok, but I am a worry wart .. The items I wanted to plate that are in question are
The oil line to the turbo ( if I can just seal both ends of the line I should be good .) ?
Then there is that infamous headlight bar .. That was a fun now I am concerned that the ball
ends may not take to plating ( I may just paint them to protect them and then remove it when I get them back ... )
Lastly the fuel damper and its line ...I cant tell you guys how hard I tried to remove the damper from the line
It is like is welded !! It is actually staring to deform the counter holding nut ... I said screw it I will just plug all the
ends ...
This guy I was going to go to is doing Zinc he doesn't do Cad ...
Does anyone know for sure ??? Whether is Cad or Zinc ...
Hey Bill, and am really sorry I owe you something ... I will get it out to you. I didn't forget just buried
and never did it before ( its a joke I have had this apple for 4 yrs and never burned a disk )
Bill How much did you get done ? and is the color close to the gold
BTW I decided not to go with burbank because the do what called a Barrel cure ..
The items are rolled in a barrel for 4 hrs .. Good for nuts and bolts .. maybe not so good for other parts ....?

Badcoupe that looks awesome !! .. what even better is that this should be no maintenance because its chromed.. Right ? Is the gun there to say HEY KEEP AWAY !! Dont get any ideas
Edit
Badcoupe
You had to have had that completely sanded to remove the casting marks ?? Correct
That's a lot of fun ...
