Default Any tricks/issues removing 968 oil pan baffle?

I had my 968 oil pan tapped to accept the oil return line. I found a metal shaving from the tap in the otherwise clean pan. I would like to remove the lack plastic baffle (stock 968 baffle) from the pan in order to make double sure there are no shavings left. It looks like I just need to remove the allen head screws to remove and replave the baffle -- is it that simple? Any tips/issues?

No tricks, it is that simple. Remember to use the appropriate loctite on those little hex bolts when you reinstall.

Make sure you heat the heads of the bolts and/or the pan where bolts thread in before you try to loosen them. They have locking compound on them from the factory and may break if you don't get them atleast warm.

Isn't the 968 oil pan originally tapped and fitted with a plug right at the place the 951 oil pan has the oil return line ?

Apparently some were and some were not. Mine had the boss, but no threaded hole.

I found a-bunch-a metal from blown rod bearings in the baffle. My stock Hex heads were easy to remove. (no heat) Just make sure you have the long skinny hex wrench. Socket ones won't reach some. Maybe a great time to add an IJ Crank scraper / windage tray too.

Jim,

Love the scrapers and Windage plate, putting another hole in my credit card right away!

Cheers
Tom
