Thumbs up Anyone in Indy have air tools and a compressor? THANKS RICK!

That I can borrow for a few hours?

My last mechanic evidently liked to use airtools to tighten these bolts. Regardless of how hard try, I can't get the starter bolts to come loose. I'm using the large socket drive and a mallet with no luck. I'm working this thing hard enough that I (amost) feel like the car is coming off the jacks.

I've PB Blasted and Wd-40'd the fu*k out these bolts and punded them for two days.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Dan:

I found my impact wrench did little to help remove the exhaust bolts. David and I put 220 pounds on them and only accomplished beating the **** out of the socket. Your best bet is to keep applying brute strength. I got one of those bolts loose by having my son push with his leg on a beaker bar from one side of the car, while I pulled on it from the other. Good luck.

Dan, I almost bought a compressor last week, but I didn't get one. Sorry man. When I get you, will be more than welcome to use it, but I won't get it for another week as I will out of town this next weekend.

I would try heating it up with a torch and using a long pipe on a breaker bar.

Thanks for the thought, Max!

I've been looking at compressors and air tools but just don't have the money yet. I need to get some before too long.

I've thought of using a torch also, but am a little sceptical about flames under the car.....

Long pipe, then stand on it from the side of the car. I think itll clear.

Thats how I had to get the oil pan drain off on my moms Caravan last night.

You might be able to rent an air compressor and an impact. Try Lewis Brothers tool rental. It is less than 15 minutes from you.

It might clear depending on how high the car is jacked up...

Daniel,

I've got both & am only about 15 minutes from you and would be glad to help out.

Is the car still rolling? If so, you could swing by & we could knock them loose & then gently tighten so you can get back home & finish your project. If the car is already up on blocks/stands, I can pile my stuff in the back of my truck & swing by.

I work for beer...good beer!

I've used acetylene to persuade a lot of bolts under the car. It is safe if you're safe, but if you've got an impact gun handy, I'd give that a shot. I've got a small commercial compressor and some air tools, but probably not the power you will need. Nevertheless, if you need a hand, let me know. In this heat, I work for water...lots of water.

I could probably borrow these from a friend of mine at work if you still need them. Just send me a PM if you do.

Daniel,
What's your schedule this week? Monday/Tuesday are pretty crazy for me but Wednesday-Friday I could do it - after work hours would be great.
Just let me know - will be glad to help out.

I knocked off work yesterday afternnon because of the heat and guests.

I plan to try it again tonight.

Rick, if it doesn't come off by Wed, I think I'll take you up on that offer. I'll come up with some good beer if it comes to that. I get home around 6pm everyday and can flex a little. I'm off all day Fri.

Mike, I don't know how easy it is to drive over with traffic, but if this doesn't work today I may put out a Mayday message.

I appreciate the offers of assistance!!

I want to throw out a big public thank you to Rick. He came over with his compressor and managed to get 2 out of 3 of bolts. I'm going to have to cut one of the starter bolts (the one that that has the head forward) tomorrow.

Thanks, Rick. Beers on me!
