Default Oil filters?

I have noticed that alot of people use the stocker mahle (sp?) filters on their cars.

Thats cool or whatever but they are a bit over priced and kinda a PITA to get your hands on localy..

So i figured while I was in the market for spending $10 for an oil filter I might as well shop around.. they had the K&N filters at jegs for $10 each as well..

I ordered up 4 of them..

any good?

Get the bigger one that was used on the 928. It threads right in to the 944 housing and because it sticks up a bit more it is easier to remove. Not to mention that it has more surface area.

That doesn't cause any sort of pressure issue??
Those 928 filters are a beast!

On having problems finding local Mahles...Zims sells them bulk, call and do the math, might be worth it.

No pressure issues that I have ever seen. This is my 2nd 944 that I've run em in. Previous car was an 87 944NA. On the NA I put around 30k miles with those filters and on the turbo I have around 10-12k. They hold about 30% more I'm guessing which is probably about a cup or so of extra oil.

Nice, a cup or so is probably all you need..

ohh well.. 4 oil filters for me will probably last the good part of 1.5 - 2 years at the rate i drive the car..

i will keep the 928 filters in mind for the next go-round

928 107 201 05 is the official Porsche part #. IIRC, I bought them through Sunset Porsche in Oregon for around $7.50 ea.

I don't have a stock one around, but the 928 one measures just under 6.5" in length.

Mahle OC75 is the larger filter for our cars. It's much taller than the OC42(?) that is commonly used.

Missin2,
Do the K&N filters have the anti-drainback valve that is needed on our cars? I'd check before you install. With the filter mounted upside down and no valve, the filter will drain down, meaning it has to refill when you start the engine before you get good pressure and flow.

If you're having trouble finding any Mahle or Porsche filters, I have a couple extras. There is no downside to using the larger OC75 filter or equivalent Porsche one.

Yup - this is not just a technicalty - best just to sell the K&N when you get them.

Dunno, I can test for it when I get them? How exactly does the vave work?

I am pretty sure they have it. they listed as a porsche replacement its not used on any other cars besides porsches..

I guess we will see

Yes they do.

The K&N, Amsoil, and Mobil One filters are all better than the Mahle/Mann at filtering. I run the Mobil One filters on all cars.
