What is an aftermarket coil good for?

I am just praying that between the coil and the plugs this will resolve my minor rough idle..
it feals like it misses from time to time.. nothing major just kinda annoying since the motor only has 50K on it really..

It does not effect the resistance against missfires due to fouled plugs, nor the spark's ability to jump across greater plug gap. It only effects the intensity of the spark in a minor way and may even shorten spark duration.
Not to mention it might cause interference with on board computers.

Haha, I used an old ignition coil to make an electronic ignition system for my spud gun, used the NC contacts of a relay in series with the coil to build an oscillator, put a condensor across the contacts to help preserve them, then ran the ignition coil in paralell with the relay coil. I wrapped the relay in electrical and duct tape to help quiet it down, it makes an ominous sizzle now
I plan to convert this to use a 10:1 step-up transformer before the ignition coil, and a transistor instead of the relay soon, will be quieter, and even more evil!
Anyhoo, the moral of the story is, with a Blaster coil, I could have had 45kV instead of 30kV that I have right now.

Installed the blaster I ordered..
Pretty strait forward..
if anyone is planning to do it get a little bit of radiator hose or something to take up the slack in the clamp, the msd coil is a good bit smaller..
I manged to install it without shocking myself (BONUS!)
My only concern is that in the instructions it said to install an 8ohm balast resistor on the positive side of the coil for a stock repalcement install.. It dident come with one.. and ofcourse that one of those things that everyone jsut keeps around the house..
I went ahead and installed it anyway (and prayed for it not to kill me)

The resistor limits the current through the coil and the DME coil driver.
If you don't want to burn up the DME I suggest you install one immediately.
The reason the coil was delivered without a resistor is that you probably bought a coil for use with an MSD ignition, in which case you don't need a resistor since the MSD is a CDI type ignition. Blaster coil for inductive ignitions are delivered with a resistor, the coil is identical in both kits though.
