Easiest way to remove Exaust header shielding?
I want to check my header for cracks and wrap it with header wrap- but I can't figure out an easy way to remove the factory shielding. Anyone have any tips? Also, any idea how much header wrap it takes to do the exaust- crossover and downpipe? like $100 a roll!! THanks

I wouldn't take that off.... There are other ways to test for a leak.
I would Jet Hot coat it .. Its a little more expensive but cleaner better looking and longer lasting
The headers run,.. like a little over a hundred dollars
Trust me unless you have a leak ( and you know it ) go the other route
regards

alright,i found the easiest way to take them off(in my case cus i dont have many toold) is to use a hack saw and make alot of section cuts on the heat shield(the parts with black lines on em),then just use a fat set of pliers to work each peice back and forth until it breaks off.fast, easy and clean.for the welds,i hand to use my dremel tto grind off the welds.hope this helps

An easy way to test for leaks with the header off the car is to seal one end with duct tape and fill the header with water. If you get a mess you have a leak. -- you may need to help seal the tape with your hand while someone fills the header.

You have to take it off, really. And I have compared the energy retention between heat shields and DEI wrap on my datalogger. DEI wrap wins - by a longshot. It won't last as long, however, but it will go a few years.
Get a cutoff wheel for your 4" grinder - 10 minutes work. You can snack on some of those delicious white crackers that are stored behind the heat shield.

Has anyone been able to get the heat shields off w/o destroying them? I don't have mine infront of me right now but I think they're just spot welded together. Can you just break the welds and clamshell them apart?
