Question LEATHER seat re-upholstery

For those who have re-upholtered their LEATHER Porsche seats, a couple of questions:

1. Which sources or brands have worked well, especially in linen color?

2. " " " " would you advise against?

from what I've seen, the leather upholsterers that have redone seats never get the fit as good as orig. factory seats. It is new leather though which has it's own merits. Autos International in San Diego and another co. in central Cali offer kits for $550 a seat + install. They both advertise in Pano/Excellence.

I have a set of linen seats for sale in the classisfieds (out of "crush"). They are fantastic and might be a better solution? I'm also selling any of the removable linen carpet out of the car and have high res pics of how truely clean the interior is on this car. It has been garaged all it's life, up until Jan 05 that is.

email me @ matt@theracersgroup.com if interested.

Also, not to steal the thread, Eric Sandoval, (search "SANDOVAL") got his cab completely custom redone for 1500.00. It's worth looking into. Get it done right once. That included dash, door pans, console etc.

A couple of things.
This work is probably a bit cheaper on the west coast due to the proliferation of trained, cheap labor, and multiple shops.
You can buy a pair of leather seat covers from World Upholstery for about 1150.00, so seats should never run 2k, while an alternative exists for half that. (and I mean in leather)
The poster lives on the W coast, so, he may have better options than we.
Lastly, Eric pulled all of that out of the car, and sent it out, so there was no labor for install, etc. That's really important in this kind of work. Pull all of your stuff, including seats, and take it too the shop. Then reinstall yourself. That will easliy save 4 or five hours, of labor time/cost.

wow ya 1150 isnt bad at all for new leather, as long as its quality and all.
if i were to only buy those covers is it pretty difficult still to install covers on 944 seats?

Heck, mine cost $1,500 just for the seats but that was professionally done and used all original OE, right-from-Porsche pads & skins. They're as good as the day the car sat in the showroom in 1985.

There is a tutorial on rennbay, that tells you how to install seat covers. I haven't done it, but it doesn't look terribley hard. You may want to replace seat pads, so that there is not a lot of bunching once they'e installed.

1500.00 sounds more reasonable for a really high quality job, like you describe.

Yea I gotta' pick 'em up in a couple of weeks. I've seen the finished product at the shop and sat in them - OMG butter! I can't wait to get 'em in the car. I'll post pics as soon as I get my hands (and butt) on them.

Yep. That's what I'm going to have done to mine. I'm going with Champagne/Cashmere color, including the whole dash, door panels, consoleetc, with black baseball stitching and black carpets.
Can't wait to see your pics.

I did a set in vinyl. It's not terribly hard but it's like bodywork - terriby hard to do well. In my case they're good enough for the intended purpose, but if I spent a grand on new leather upholstery I'd pay the coin to have a good local guy put them on.
