Unhappy Put Red Line NS in LSD by mistake

My mistake I put Red Line 80/90W NS gear oil in my LSD Tranny,
it seems do drive OK. Should I add an LSD friction modifer, or drain it
and put in the non NS fluid. Has anyone use AMSOIL gear Oil?

Call the Red Line Tech number tomorrow, they are the best for answering this.

I am curious on this as well. The PO put in Swepco 80/90W, but I have a guard LSD unit in my transmission. I guess it's not quite the same, but same general idea.

If the Guard is like the Quaife or Torsen style LSD (mechanical , no discs) it won't matter. Friction modifiers are usually for disc type LSD's only. I'm not that familiar with the Guards but I believe it's a Torsen style.

gstreev, I forgot to mention, I ran Amsoil 75W90 in my N/A transmission, it felt like a whole new transmission. Couldn't be happier with it. Very impressed.

KuHL 951, I will have to look into what type of LSD it is, but I hope it's a torsen style unit.

Does anyone know if the LSD in the 89 used Discs or is mechanical, I think it uses discs though.

Conventional discs if it's OE, you will need the friction modifiers.

I run half 75w90NS in both my factory clutch-type LSDs. They're so worn they don't need the friction modifier helping slippage.

Which Redline product is best for the factory LSD - '89 vintage?

If over about 30k miles, I'd recommend what I run: half 75w90NS and half Heavy Shockproof.

Tony, most people I've talked to recommend either Redline 75-90 (?) w/ friction modifier or Swepco 201. I use the Swepco (it smells like dead fish, though). I think OG now has the Swepco, and I know they have Redline.

The Swepco is a little stiff in cold weather until it warms, but that's not a concern for your use.

For anyone reading this who might think it doesn't make any difference - let me tell you.
I put lightweight shockproof (blue) into my rebuilt S2 LSD - it would not go into first.
When I put the MT90 in, no problems at all. That's all it was. These things are sensitive to the oil.

I just happened to have the blue from a dog tranny, and figured I would try to cheap out............. WRONG

Good news - thanks!
I bought Redline 75-90, which has friction modifiers. Their 75-90NS does not. Their blurb is ambiguous, in that it says that the friction modifiers [good for the LSD clutches] may be too slippery for good synchro function. Confusing, but sounds like slippery stuff is the right stuff after all.

Well, if the clutches don't lock up properly you can always drain and refill w/ the other variety. Luckily it's not a tough job.

Then again, I might be feeding you false information in an attempt to slow you down... ;-)

Doh! You mean that email you sent with the formula for transaxle fluid of 25% balsamic vinigrette, 25% molasses, and 50% diesel fuel was a trick?? Damn!

BTW Jerome, you really need to run some NASA races this season. Hyperfest at SP 16 July would be a great start. C'mon.....you know you want to do it.
