One could find the weight of your tire by checking Tire Rack's site, find the tire and check the specs for it. Tires can vary in weight by 2-3 lbs. @.

I remember reading somewhere that 16 in phone dials run 14lbs for front and 16 lbs for rear, same for he forged club sport 16 inch wheels.

Tires I am not so sure about

Nice red text above your avatar RKD!

I concur with the wheel weights, though I have not weighed them myself, just what I have seen. Also, if you are worried about the weights, chat to Matt H about it, its a sensitive subject about rotational mass.

looking on tire rack most 225/50/16 are 25 lbs. Same with 245/45/16.

According to this:

http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars/WheelWts.html

18.5 for 7x16 &
20 for 8x16

It would be great to have an updated version of this page. I'm looking for 17" wheels for early offset and I'd like not to add any unnecessary weight.

By the way, what is a significant amount of weight when comparing 2 wheels? In other words, everyone says Mille Miglias are heavy, but according to the wheel weight page, MM's are 25 & 28 lbs. versus 22 & 23.5 for OEM Cups. Is 3-4 lbs. that big-a-deal?

Thats the issue Super, unsprung weight, there is a bit of a debate over that issue, Matt H I believe has some scientific thoughts on it. He is a bit of a wheel guy.

The heavier a wheel is, the more torque/power is required to turn it. Consider if it it 28 per, that's 112ibs to rotate, total. Now lets use the inverse 22#'s that's 88#'s. 24 #'s difference in rotating mass. As a former cyclist, I can tell you, it's really obvious in a micro context. You have to generate fewer watts, not just to rotate, but to maintain rotation of lighter wheels. More over, MM's are cast, rather than forged, and are inherently less rigid. Deflection would affect handling...but that gets into math that I really don't wish, nor am trained, to deal with. So yes, in wheels, especially, you get what you pay for. If you'rte a cyclist by chance, make it your first priority.

I kid you not. After upgrading my wheels to 17 inch
wheels over the origina Fuchs, I immedialtely
felt the loss of acceleration. The new wheels weigh
40lbs F & 45 lbs R including tires each.

Oh really? I wonder what my 18's will be like... they are heavier, thats for sure. I have heard that lower walled tyres on bigger rims lower the HP ratings on rolling road dynos, as a side note.

Take note NZ, mine are 3 pc rims & yet ?
Your Simmons would be heavier but the
tires are lighter so maybe you'll end up
weighing the same as my wheels.

Yeah maybe, mine are 3 piece as well... I am not sure the rubber will be that much less, 265/35/18 and 225/50/18. I will weigh them though!

In terms of weight for 18 inch wheels, at the
moment the lightest that I'm aware of are
from SSR & Volk Racing. In Japan Volk Racing
has a set made from Titanium. Price is in the
don't ask category.
