Question Is this typical for a wire harness in the engine bay ??

I was doing some cleaning up in my engine bay and found that the heat from the down pipe must have melted the adhesive on this tape. Are all of these wires spliced like this from the factory ??
Thanks in advance
Regards
Ed

That's the cable that's zip tied to the alt cable then disappears around the bell housing
Maybe it's the starter cable ?
It originates form the battery area sweeps at the back of the fire wall then goes down to the bell housing
Thanks Mike

You're right , it does seem to be the main power cable! You may want to consider some iceshark cables, or carrying a very large fire extinguisher....... (neither comment is a joke!!)

I guess I will pull all of it off and see what the story is
The cables and the contacts are prestine as is most of my car
otherwise I would jump on it . I know Dan's a good guy

That cable going down to the bellhousing is for the starter and the original cable does look like that. But it does get brittle over the years. On my car, it was grounding out somewhere within the sheath and causing an intermittent no-start condition. I ended up replacing with iceshark cables.

There's a lot of heat under these hoods. I've had to replace a number of connectors and wires over the years.

That is stock factory wrapping on the cable.

Thanks Hugh and Albert
At least its factory
That is the only thing wrong with them ( is the tape ) ..
They are in excellent condition. This car only has 40k+ on it :-)
I am thinking of using the liquid tape. It's good to 275 degrees +
I have thermal wrap for the wires as well.
I jet hot coated the down pipe and I am going to wrap the down pipe too.
Oh and Mike, I do have a fire extinguisher in the car

Ed:

Mine looked like that too. The insulation was not cracked, so I spiral wrapped them with a self-amalgamating electrical tape to provide some extra protection. Kinda like wrapping the handlebars on an old ten speed.
