User opinions please: TO4E super 50 trim...
I am getting ready to spend some money on a turbo. I just rebuilt my engine. I have full exaust with tial 38mm, pro-M MAF, injectors,wide band o2, crank breather tank, o-ringed and pp head. I was hoping to get a turbo with stock k26-6 spool up - but more HP. I would like around 350rwhp on pump gas. Does anyone have a turbo that does this? I have done alot of reading of past posts. I think that a 60-1 is bit too big for my goals. I would like nice power under the curve- not big dyno hp- with fast spool up. My local area is lots of curvy roads- not stop light racing.
Does anyone have a TO4E Super 50 trim, with a stage 3 wheel in a #8 hot housing? Will this turbo meet my goals? what RMP will I see full boost? what Kind of HP are you guys getting with this turbo? Is the super 50 allot better than the regular 50 trim? will this be a better turbo than a K27? which is pretty close in price. $700 to get my k26 built into k27 and about $800 to get the TO4E built. This is with standard thrust bearing- I cant afford the fancy dual BB set up like innovative turbo sells. (wish I could though).
I am having a tough time making the call between the k27 or the garrett hybrid. The k27 seems pretty close the what I am looking for- maybe a bit less HP than I wanted, and a ton of people have posted the results. Stock spoolup is very nice feature also.

I dont know about the super 50 trim but i have did my research when i was thinking about buying a turbo, but i decided on the 46 trim i wanted something streetable that spooled quick. From what people have told me about the 46 who had used it, is that it spools up to 10-12 psi by around 2900, this is with a T04E 46 trim stage 3 exhaust turbine in a # 8 housing. Dont know if that helps you

I've got the T04E on my car with the 50 trim and #8 exhaust. Look at my sig for the HP numbers. I think I can do even better by fixing my exhaust leak near the wastegate as that should improve my spool up time. I did not get the ball bearing upgrade and I'm getting 15psi by 3800 RPM's in 3rd gear.
Apparently my membership ran out because my sig just got deleted. LOL! Doh!

If your looking for a quicker spool up stay with the 6 hotside. Most of the trims spool up to 1 bar between 3000 and 3400 with the 8 hotside. With a 6 and ball bearing you could get down to below 2600.

I have not mounted the turbo yet I am still putting it back together but i am looking to try and get around 300-350 range. I asked boostguy951 about it which it was his previous turbo and he told me it spools quick and pulls hard to redline so I beleive i will be happy with it BTW it is not ball bearing it is just a standard 360 degree bearing.

Question for all: who makes the most affordable dual BB set up? Innovative wants $1800 for one of there dual bb turbos. For that price I could get the gt30r turbo and have money left over. Turbnetics says they have a bb set up but last time I called them it was only a single bb- not dual. Do they sell a Dual bb setup now? I remember reading about reliability issues with the single bb. I sent them a email but they never bothered to get back to me.

I'm using the MAP kit from Link/Guru. I doubt you'll see more or less with a MAF. I also run the Tial 38mm wastegate as my stock one was junk at the time. Those numbers are on an dynapack too and those tend to read a tad lower than the roller dynos.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd fit a GT30 turbo in there.

I suggest you talk to some of the tuners that sponsor this site like SFR and Vittesse. They have some very good products and can help you make a wiser decision. The little bit extra you will spend will gain you hours of phone support and a product you will be pleased with in the end.

That would also depend on the turbine that you're
using in the #6 hot housing. In context to the KKK
stock turbine yes you get lots of back pressure but
once you change it, it's another story altogether.

The ? is what boost pressure do you want to run to get you to 350 rwhp. A 50 trim will need 22 + psi to get you there. With a 60-1 you will need 20psi. With my turbo you need 17. Even though my turbo is larger than the other trims is still spools up just as fast if configured correctlly. The difference is not spoolup time it's peak torque. The 50 will hit peak touque at 3700 rpm the 60-1 at 4000 and my turbo at 4200. Just because you have the boost just as fast if feels different. The 50 trim hits the tourque fast but drops off just as quick. the larger turbos carry you to redline. I don't think there is a turbo that can do it all. There isn't a turbo out there that can build torque super fast and can carry it to red line on pump fuel. Your setting yourself up to be disapointed.
