Well,
Just as I got home from school and start to enjoy driving my Porsche this happens.....
THere is a loud Rotational clunking noise coming from the right rear while I am in gear and driving. The noise goes away with the cluth pushed in, and while in neutral just coasting. The interval between clunks sounds like it would be on the wheel somewhere.l in other words, it's clunk, wait......................clunk, as if it is going with the speed of the rear wheel. The faster I go, the faster the clunk
Could somebody point me in the right direction here?
Thanks,
Jared

Alright thatnks guys, I will check those bolts today, maybe just pull off the CV. The noise is intermittent, sometimes it happens, other times it doesn't.
Thanks everybody

Means it could be a wheel bearing.
When that side of the car is unloaded (i.e. going in a turn toward that side of the car), does the clunking go away? If so, it could be the bearing.
If the CV inspection doesn't show anything unusual, sounds like you need a new bearing. If it is to the point of 'clunking', it may not have very long. They typically make a growling sounds when they start to go.

Make sure if you remove the CV bolts, to replace them with new ones since they are not considered reusable. Also, make sure you clean the star-shaped heads out on the old bolts before you try to remove them and set the bit with the light tap of a hammer to make sure that you don't strip the head!

I'll bet $10 it's your wheel bearings. Check the CV joints first because they are the easy one to check.
Changed them (bearings) on the 944 NA before I sold it. Makes the exact sound you are describing and goes away around corners blah blah blah. Drive it a little longer and they will start to squeal everyonce in a while too. One quick test, push side to side on the back of the car to see if there is a slight amount of movement. The mechanic doing my pre track inspection did this, he said they will make noise if they are going. Don't know if it is an accurate test or not.
I would suggest not taking this up to higher speeds if it is the WB's, you will score the rear end pretty bad.
Good news would be they are cheaper to replace than cv's...

Thanks for all your replies guys, I don't think it could be a wheel-bearing because the sound is ONLY there while in gear and driving.
Again, thanks to all of you,
Jared

I did tech for a while, the best way to test wheel berings is to grab a tire, and shake it (pretty f-ing hard)
on a good wheel bering there will be no play and all you will really do is end up shaking the car a little.
on a bad one you will feal a little play an probably a small knocking sound, you will feal the knocking through the tire as well typiclly..
The test is not perfect.. EX my vastly inferior camaro has allways had a little play on one side, why I dont know.. but it dosent seem to be getting any worse (I check it every few weeks)..

No real difference between inner and outer. If you track the car a lot the outer may go first because it is exposed to a lot of heat in the hub. For street driving, the one nearest your exhaust pipe is usually the first to go because it is exposed to extra heat.
BTW, the CV joint bolts are completely reusable as long as you don't mangle the 12 pt head. They are only torqued to 34 ft lbs so they don't see a lot of stretch. I remove and clean my CVs annually and have reused the bolts ~10 times w/ no issues.
