Default Power Steering Question

Where on the engine does the power steering get added?

Also, how can I tell if it is running low?

The car makes a whining sound when the wheel is turned hard.

Thanks.

There's a black round cyl near the passenger side headlamp area. It has a large screw off top - and ATF gets added there - NOT power steering fluid!!!

Check your owners manual if you have it. With the car running you want to see fluid on the bottom portion of the dipstick which you'll notice is different from the shaft of the dipstick.

HTH!

ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Just use Dexron3 thats available at most places.

automatic transmission fluid, Ohh S*i#, I just topped it off with power steering the other day. Should this cause a problem? And yes a whine normally means that your low on fluid.

ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid...

Our steering racks are designed for ATF use in there. Use some power steering fluid - and you'll end up replacing that nice expensive steering rack. Get it at any local auto parts store - just check your owners manual (I don't have mine here, sniffle) for the specs on the fluid you want. I think Dextron III or IV is what's called for - but CHECK first. I didn't have my normal pot of coffee today so I'm not thinking perfectly straight.

If you added power steering fluid - the factory calls for a FLUSH and FILL of the system...

If you only added a little - you might be ok - but then again, you might not.

READ THE OWNERS MANUAL...
