Cool How much WHP on those 951s

Hey guys...

Just to star a new thread to see how much WHP is on those street 951s out there. This sunday I was at a Dyno Day in P.R. and one of my best friends made 420 whp @ 21psi on his daily driven 94' Efini. An RX8 is also around the mid 400s with 18psi.
Check his ride out...

My 951 will soon arrive to PR, so soon I'll be when I his view...

Enjoy the pics.

Wow, I love the RX-7 so much!

In fact, I love the Japanese supercars of that era! Some dreamy cars to say the least. They look damn good! Not to mention that they are fast.

The Supra TT, Skyline R33, R34, Mitsubishi GTO VR-4, Efini RX-7.. wow.

The lights on his RX7 look nice. Remind me of the JDM FTO!

Thats a BIG turbo!! I hope he doesn't run it without a filter on the road?! Anyway how much hp seems to be damn controversial! I'm currently trying to build a 2.8 944 with some pretty heafty work, I'v had massive problems because half the specialists you speak to tell you its impossible to get over 300hp and without limiting the engine life to 30-40hours running! When I finally find someone to finish the job I'll write a review of my oppinions but I'v heard of pleanty of 944's running 400+RWHP and I'v even seen one car running near 400. My car will hopefully be somewhere in the low 400's (approx 450hp at the flywheel at 18psi) so I'll give an honest veiw of whether its reliable enough to run as a road car. Hopefully that will count for something.

Great looking RX's! Love those cars. I believe special tool just made 438whp on a Mustang Dyno, which is around 490whp on a Dynojet.

Let "you're specialist" talk to the "proper" specialists in the US for reliable power. 300Bhp, is more like 258Whp. Chips alone get's you in that range (more/less).

Then you weren't talking to a specialist.......

Ok people claiming to be specialists! However I heard it from two seperate sources and both of these people have alot of experience building and racing 944's (not high hp ones obviously). There seems to be a divide in the UK between different specialists!

Unfortunately now that I'm on my own trying to organise getting my car back together (because the guy building my car decided to leave the tuning industry and go into building! In the process refusing to finish my car or even release it unless he was paid ridiculous money, but hey thats a story for another time!) I have been trying to find someone to fit my mass of parts back together. It seems everyone I go to thinks the car is going to explode immediately if I run 18psi, even though this goes against what I have learnt and seen in my 2years of 944 ownership there are no cars in the UK (that I know of) running this sort of power and its very worrying (upsetting) to hear respected people say this! Especially when I'v put way more than I can afford into the project and want to see it succeed!

Well whatever happens, so long as I can find someone to put it all together and set it up correctly (its way past my technical ability). I will be building my car to the spec I had planned so I will just have to see! If it goes bang I shall cry!!

That's great DivineE! I'm on the same page so I'll be posting the progress too. I certainly do nt doubt that with stock internals (probably different pistons or coatings) and with the correct fuel management (FULLY PROGRAMMABLE) those numbers would be reached "safely".

All depends on the tuner...Porsche motors aren't idiot friendly.

By the way, the lights are custom made by GCustom Design (close friend) and sells them if anybody's interested. When my 951 arrives, we'll probably work on some to see how they look. Currently he makes them for the 3000GT and RX7.

Extremely glad to hear others are in the same boat (or similar), on the positive side my engine internals are not stock (Lindsey Stage 3 head, optional titanium valve springs and retainers, new 100.5 Mahle pistons, 3.0 crank, Cometic gasket) but on the downside apart from the Guru chips and MAP solution my ECU is original and thus not fully programmable)

That doesn't sound right. You should be able to use them.

I highly encourage you to contact John at Vitesse, Tim at Speed Force Racing, dave at Lindsey as they are far more knowledgable. Explain to them that you are not getting much support over there.

Cheers caps that have helped. Tony!! Nice to see you hear! I did enjoy watching your big turbo suck leaves and children off the steet at the last Dyno day!

As for questions like will the injectors overheat the ECU and can the early Rods be retained and used in my car 2.8 with bigger power (That was another thing! I was told the standard rods would melt like chocolate in my engine!) I'll see if Dave at Linsey can spare me a moment since most of my parts originate from him. Does anyone have his email address they could PM me?

Ben
