Angry Insturments not working, car runs great.

My 87 runs real strong but none of the dash instruments work. I have heater, vent, dash light, but no instruments at all. any suggestions?

Weird that you have nne at all, they have 3 different connectors that are pretty much not likely at all to come off. Fuse?

How does that affect anything but the tach in a no start condition?

Well he said his car runs but not the instruments. This has happened to me before where my car would start but my spedo and rpms would just stay at zero even when I reved up the car. I shut it down and wiggled the sensors and made sure they were connected and started it up again everything worked again.

My boost gauge, spedo, tach, fuel, batt indicator, temp, do not register at all. I have driven about 50 miles this way. It went from starting sometimes to starting all the time but with out any gauges working. My lights, sunroof, heater fan, all work. My odomoter (sp) will not work. Radio, elect seats all work. Both defoggers work and wiper works fine. I checked fuse #18 If that is what you are refering to. It was good. I'm stumped. Suggestions??

Is there a easy way to reach the three connectors on the back of the instrument cluster? It seems everything points to these being loose. I can't seem to contort my hand and arms into a position to reach them.

You have undone the 4 screws holding the cluster in right?

Do you mean it is easier to remove the dash from the car? At least slide it out a bit. Is that the method to reach the connecters.

Default Same Problem. Fixed yet?

Did you figure it out? I just replaced both my Speed and Ref Sensors and now my instruments and sunroof don't work......fuses good. Change X/Ignition relay, still no instruments....older posts say to look for a 14 pin connector near brake mastercyclinder...can not find on my 88 944. Let me know if you found yur problem please.

It is mounted on the firewall. Standing at the front of the car, its at the back right corner of engine bay near brake fluid tank. Three inches in front of the fuse box. Rectangular brown block connector.

Had similar problem...it was a relay in the fuse box. Try moving 53 relay...the fog light(Working one) to the all other #53 relays...ignition one. My tech buddy had that prob. I hope it is that simple for you!! Mike

my 88 has all gauges working except for the tach. Car runs fine too. I can't figure it out as I have not touched the DME harness at all.

And then one day it fixed it self. On the drive home yesterday I went around a corner and the tach started working. Not sure if it the turn or if it happen a little sooner. I had gotten used to not looking at the tach.

Must have been some sort of loose connection. That is one reason I hate electrical stuff. One minute it does not work the next it does. WTF?

Hard to fix stuff like that.
