Question Test pipe questions

I am planning on some improvements this summer. I'll be replacing my wastegate, adding some chips and a test pipe.

I wan't to keep the car "stockish" so I'm keeping the factory cat back and would like some type of bolt on test pipe.

What do you recommend and where do I get one?

I run a factory muffler and bursch test pipe, and and am very happy with it. It sounds like a factory car almost ( a bit deeper at idle, a bit more burbly at speed). In snow country, you may want to think about sprining one of the stainless test pipes like the one's speedforce racing sells.

I don't drive it in the winter so as nice as stainless is it's just added expense. I heard a lot of good things about the bursch pipe but can't seem to find them for an '89. I went to Pelican and they only list up to '88.

Did a google search and didn't come up with anything either. Where did you get yours?

I am not aware of any differences between the 88 and 89 test pipes. Call Jason at Paragon if you want to be sure.

Regards,

I am going to fabricate one myself here one of these days. I am going to do something very similar to what fabspeed's turbo cat bypass looks like (2 piece slip fit system), in that i will cut the cat out, and then use a 1.5-2 foot piece (will have to measure to see what i need) of 2.5 steel exhaust pipe with a 4 bolt flange welded to the one end that will just slide over the end of the existing pipe and clamp down. Flaring the one end so it will slide over the existing exhaust pipe will be the tricky part i am sure. I can't believe that it will not work.

Let me know if it works Karl. How much do you think you'll have into the parts? If you can fab one without too much trouble make a second and I'll come down. Then I'll have to add 'Doc Wilen cat bypass' to my sig

I am guessing about 20 bucks, with the 4 bolt flange being the most expensive part. I dont know if you saw the fabspeed exhaust on the wall at the shop, but this is the idea...

Picture is a little dark, but the break is right to the right of the clamp, I don't think i will have to tie in quite so close to the wastegate dump connection.

There's no difference in the design. I bought my testpipe off an 87 951.
