Porsche is just trying to expand their product line and customer base to diversify and maintain financial health. They learned the hard way in the late 80's and early 90's that relying on one car, or one type of car is too risky for long term health. The Cayenne brought increased sales, and Porsche increased their profitability even though Boxster sales were way off. Unless you want to stay really small and specialized, i.e. Caterham or Morgan, you need to diversify to have constant cash flow. The high end four door prestige segment in Europe is very lucrative. Look at the 5 Series BMW, the E-Class MB, Jaguar, Lexus, etc. That is why Ferrari has Maserati, to do four door vehicles. If Porsche tried to start another line, it would take time to develop a recognition of the name. They already have the recognition with their own name and what it stands for. As long as they don't loose sight of their origins and DNA, a four door will only bring more money to the company to maintain health and possibly help fund special projects and racing.

Nope sorry. They go up on ebay every once in a while. But they come with a different rear diffuser, BBS LM rims?, and more power possibly. Not sure exaclty but they are beautiful.

Porsche is leaving the performance market and opening to a "yuppie" market. They are looking to sell cars to people that have money and want to say they have a porsche. A fine example of this would be the 996 and the new 997 (not bashing on them, but the 996 and 997 left the performance ground and went into fast luxury).
The main purpose of the 4 door is open a new market of sedan, some thing porsche has never done before (besides the cayenne). Porsche used to let VW and Audi be the sedan holders but i bet porsche wanted to have a sedan with the porsche patch on it. I bet after there first year of being out people will warm up to them and people with kids will want one. The concept is actually pretty cool. Drive 3 of your kids to school in a porsche.
I personal don't like the rear though looks like a 350Z more than a porsche
