Have a look on the web, there are charts floating about which show the plug colour and the relative condition.

Its hard to tell from a picture mind.

I thnik that light to medium brown is the appropriate colour that would indicate correct plug tip temps.

My gaps arelittle wide too. I don't know if that will have much of an impact. Any way, they are getting replaced with NGK BPR7ES.

I thought about using the BPR7YES plugs with the V-groove. But I don't think that would help much. They claim it move the spark outward more.

One side says NGK / R and the other says GR5 V-Power

those photos of the bosch platinum shows exactly why they shouldn't be used. you'll notice that the center 'platinum' electrode has worn away to the point it's recessed into the ceramic insulation.

despite what people say, i think bosch platinum plugs wear out faster than anything else on the market.

Actually, if you look at the website, it shows that it the design. The electrode is recessed inside the insulator.

Daniel, I am not expert but your plugs look just like mines did right after I blown my last head gasket , dump the bosch and get some NGK BPR7ES.

Encouraged by this thread, I changed to NGK BPR7ES plugs today (old ones were Beru somethings, due for replacement anyway). Also cleaned and re-oiled the K&N filter... and what do you know, the thing just might run a bit smoother. Or then it's just the psychological effect after a small tune-up

I just got a new air filter today and went from BPR7ES to BR7ES. I want to see if the protruding tip makes any difference.

I already did. Those plugs were thrown away and a new set of BPR7ES went in.

if you actually go buy a brand-new set of bosch platinum plugs, you will see that the center platinum electrode is NOT recessed into the surrounding ceramic insulation.

they get like that as they get worn.

At 13 to 15 psi the APE chips should give you a much more rich condition than what your plugs look like. If your fuel pressure is low due to a bad fpr then I can see it happening. I know from experience running the APE chips that I never had any plugs showing that lean on the insulator tip and I was running 14-15psi. The APE chips go way rich in the midrange when your torque peak hits and then they lean out up towards 6000 but should not go too lean at the 13 psi level at all. If anything I would expect them to be rich. Check your fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. Vitesse's chips are great so definitely go that way for the future, but for right now I would check your fuel delivery out.

I completely forgot about this dyno chart. It shows me going rich as I am losing boost due to a faulty wastegate (getting changed soon). I max at 13psi before quickly dropping...

This is my dyno curve from a few years ago without the weak wastegate without AFR. There's a big difference.
