Default need advice on cylinder score

Pulled the head after a leakdown test showing 12% at cylinder nr 2.
found some scratch in cyl 3 and 4, the rest is all fine.

Here are some pics

This is cylinder nr 3

Have to use fingernails to feel it, but I`m worried that this one is to big

oposite side , also cylinder nr 3

Small ones in cyl nr 4, This I could barely feel with my nails

Any comment on this !!

That does not look to bad have seen much worse, i would not touch the cylinders, new rings good to go.

agree, new rings, and make sure you break them in with dino oil. Do you plan on a head refresh, how many miles on the car?

The car has 87k miles on it ...
I really don`t want to do the rings either , ( you know the frase " while I`m in there" ).. but on the other hand I don`t want to do the job twice..
It Also have a small leak at the oil pan gasket , but this is really small..
Dino oil ???

That means "mineral oil"

For the break in process you must use mineral oil and later on you will use the good 100% synthetic oil.

dino - dinosaur oil, fossil fuel. Synthetic oil doesn't seat rings well.

Dino oil ???

I was thinking of a SFR rebuild of the head ( port job,new guides, seals, 5 angle cut, Race spring and titanium retainer, o-ring and surface the head) , maybe a new cam aswell , and new lifters

Futermore I consider a set of SFR stage II headers, new intake, SFR IC and a new Turbo ( The vitesse stage II/ III turbos seems very interesting )
Why don't you want to adress the rings?? isn't the engine out of the car already?(can't say with the pics), are you rebuilding the engine or just took off the cylinder head to repalce the head gasket and noticed the scores?? tell us you're plans, there are a number of people who know a thing or two for "building it right", Ski is one of them

What were your leakdown and compression numbers by cylinder? You said #2 had the 12% leakdown, yet that cylinder was in good shape? Did you check where the leakage was going, ie crankcase or exhaust or intake?

If the motor is out of the car, I would definitely put new rings, and bearings while it is out. If the engine is still in the car then I would have the head checked closely and would look at #2 cylinder valves for possible leakage since your cylinder walls in that cylinder looked good.

By the way have you already cleaned the top of your pistons prior to taking the pictures? They sure look clean. What about the cyl scuffing above the ring travel in #4? How rough is it?

Nothing to add..dand86951 said what I was thinking. The advantage of the leakdown test is determining exactly where you have concerns. Where was the air going in #2?

Well... Long story short

previous owner did run the car with 1,4 bar boost without adding extra fuel , Was a bit worried of how the cylinder walls would look like. but compression test was good, and below 2% leakdown ( cold engine) on all cylinders except nr 2
Took a chance and pulled the head with engine still in the car..

Think there is a lot of people on the list who "know their stuff"
, hey thats why I joined in .
To get advice from people who has been ther done that is great, thanks

Hos, If changing the rings is the suggestion I get, Then I would change the rings, and I probably end up spending some more $$$ while I`m in there ...

Yes cylinder nr 2 looked OK , The picture of the valve is from cyl 2
as I wrote in previous post leakdown below 1% in cyl nr 1 and 3 and below 2% in nr 4 , 12 % in nr 2 ..
I`ve got high pressure in coolant tank but only when boosting , white smoke and also small amount of white milkshake under oil filling cap

No I have not cleaned anything before taking the pictures , only some dirt from my fingers after checking the cylinder walls

There is some roughnes above the ring travel, But I`m not sure how much it could be

This is cylinder nr 2

A bad picture of the head

Block

I`l take some close up of the valves and check the scuffings
