Default 87 944 turbo miss

For the last several years i have been driving a 928 s turbocharged with a T04 and an electromotive tec III, 45# injectors etc etc. I have gotten very spoiled with the tec III because it is so easy to diagnose and it is pretty much bullit proof.

At any rate I was ready for something differnet so I found a 103K mile well maintained sweet 87 944 turbo in really good shape. My friends cant even believe its 18 YO. It had around 13G worth of work done in late 2002 and sat for 2 years. At any rate...........

Problem #1
It starts up a little rough, hot or cold. I rev it a couple of times and within 15-20 seconds its very smooth. No idea what is causing this since it does it all the time.

Problem #2
At 4000rpm and full boost it starts breaking up and acts like tis not getting enough fuel. The guy I bought it from bought it not running from the guy who spent 13G in 2002. I asked what was wrong with it when he bought it and he said the fuel pump, but who knows. First off I plan to change the fuel filter, because I could not find any info on when that was done and also check that it is really a turbo fuel pump.

I also though that this could be the knock sensor false alarming.

Any ideas ??

Things to check:

- Fuel Pressure
- Engine Temp Sensor for DME
- plugs & plug wires
- injectors
- all ground connections
- clean AFM to harness connector

- Get a AFR gauge (wideband best); now check if it's rich or lean.

If there are aftermarket components list them..

Yeah, I am not really dialed into this car yet. I am so used to fiddling with a tec III, so this is going to take some getting used to. I can diagnose one of those in about 2 minutes.

I did plan to check the fuel pressure and I do have a fuel pressure gage, but I am not sure if I have the right fitting for a 944.

It seems like the seller did say it had a chip in it in passing, but I have not checked to be sure. It is fast though. My 928 turbo is a beast, but frankly I was suprised this little car was so fast. Very nimble. I actually like driving it better.
