Girlfriend gets SUV with nearly same power, need opinions on upgrades
So, in light of a new car purchase with nearly the same horsepower as my sports car, I need some opinions.
My car is too slow. I am good now with suspension and brakes and auxilliary cooling. My car is and will be in the future mainly a DE car that happens to be my car while I am in law school. I don't think I would club race this car, since I can save money by purchasing a car from somebody else that has already built an F or E class 944 turbo. That being said, this is what I can come up with.
No matter what, a new wastegate and electronic boost control. Also, my turbo is in bad need of rebuilding because at the race track when on boost a lot it burns oil enough that I have to add it throughout the day.
1. Not worry about the turbo and just get some AFM chips from vitesse for my 26/6.
2. Source a cheap 26/8 and get some AFM chips from vitesse.
3. Rebuild my turbo or find somebody to get a k27/6 + AFM chips
4. Get a full turbo setup from vitesse. For this option I would have to wait until next year. I will eventually be doing this or I might get into something else when I graduate, like turbo charging a 968 or going directly into club racing.
I just don't want to lose too much money on a turbo I will be getting ride of within a year, as the wastegate and ebc will stay.

Buy my k27/8 and 55 lb injectors for $1200 (approx 10,000 miles on turbo - less than 3000 miles on injectors). All you would need is a 3.0 bar FPR and a set a of chips to finish it off.

I have been wanting to post or see someone psot about this. It is getting crazy when mid level sedans and standard SUV's are hitting 250, 275, 300hp!!!
Everytime I see a commercial "The new Lexus 4 door sedan very econommical V6 with 285hp" CRIPES!!!
NEED MORE POWER!!!
Any way, as you might have seen with others on here, the stock turbo is a little bad *** and is capable of a LOT of performance, as long as it can breath better.
Get a MAF, with chips and maybe 3" exhaust, or at least get the CAT out if it is still in there. Would make a world of difference and not an extream cost. And, this is not money you would throw away due to a new turbo down the road.
Especialyy with "head work w/ O-ringed head, WF HeadGasket" you can run a good bit of boost. With that EBC, yo ucan run a good bit of boost down low and mid range, some in here run 20psi, then roll it off up top to be safe. Gives the best of both worlds.

but that's CRANK hp, not rear wheel. Get the Vitesse AFM chips with 3.0 regulator, consistent results of 245-250/265-280 repspectively. Dump the Europroducts chips and save your funds for a full Vitesse or Lindsey kit.

I think I am just going to go with chips for my k26. Unless I can find a cheap k26/8 like i mentioned. Also, for the time being I am going to maybe just get an MBC. Friends of mine from grad school are working on a custom EBC but there is no telling when that will actually exist. Real jobs are no fun :-(.
I also suspect I will be replacing my wastegate. Does anybody here use the dual port lindsey gate? That would give me the easier fit for a dual port and with the ebc would be pretty nice.

Yeah, but it isn't totally bolt on for the 86 correct? I wish this formula1 race would start. The modification headache is worth the $100 in extra money to me. I do have an uncle that is an exhaust guy, but I don't want him to have to dick with it either.

I have heard of people with 86's just bolt it on. I have an 86, but was a cheap *** and had my muffler guy spend 30mins bending and welding two very small sections of pipe on.... it cost $50 to do.

so at $285 + $15 shipping + $50, for another $50 I get the lindsey racing dual port that I can install. My biggest problem is timing when I am working on the car. I try to get things done in one day and I don't want to have to take it to a muffler shop etc.. Isn't there also a problem with the hanger etc.. and causing the exhaust to move around with that hanger not in place with the tial causing cracking?

I got my Tial for 225 from Extremepsi.com
I have never heard of a report that someone had cracking caused by the Tial. So many people run the Tial, I have for over a year and no cracking around that area at all. The Tial is new as well remember! Not 20 years old and prone to cracking.
