Yeah, but they also had to design it for worst possible conditions, ensure long term reliability to protect against warranty issues etc.

Is it really necessary for someone that gets under their car rather frequently.

Are you people who have had the bolts come loose using lock washers and/or loctite on the bolts? I'm using both (lock washers and high-temperature loctite) and I seem to be OK so far. I don't use a bracket on mine either.
