Question Purpose of pins on the flywheel

I bought a new lightened steel flywheel from Lindsey Racing for the 89 Turbo S and when I got it I noticed the original one has three pins on the outside circumference about 30 degrees apart with one closer to the clutch side and the second two closer to the engine side. The new one I got only has the one pin closest to the clutch. I called Dave Lindsey and he told me these two extra pins are not used but are there when the engine is assembled. Just for my own curiosity, does anyone know their function?

The other two extra pins is for diagnotic purposes only.. On the back of the Cam Tower (I think it is next to the exhaust test tube, Blue top), you'll notice a circular electric port that you can plug something into, well the end of this wire goes to a ref sensor that uses those pins on the flywheel.

The only stock sensors needed is that one on the flywheel and the one that tracks the starter ring gear on the clutch.
