Default AC comp. wiring

OK after searching and finding no answers...I am installing a new AC kit. My replacement compressor has one wire on it...my car is an 87 and appears to have two wires. How do I wire the new one in?

The original two wires are; clutch +12 volts & clutch ground.
Since the new compressor has only one wire, it has an internal
ground to its' housing. So, just use a test light to determine which
of the two original wires supply +12 volts when the clutch is energized,
and connect it to your new compressor's single wire.

That's what I was thinking...I will try to salvage the connector off my old one so I don't have to clip the end on my car harness...although no one will ever see it. Thanks.
