Default The 951 S torque tube was increased to 25.5mm?

According to page 84 of Original Porsche 924/944/968 by Peter Morgan, this was one of the engineering upgrades of the S model build. I have read many posts saying their is no difference. However, one ordering torque tube replacement bearings would need to know. Is Peter koo koo?

Where are you ordering your bearings from?

And they may have used the same bearings, just different carriers...

Nowhere yet, just planning for the inevitable future. I thought it was strange that this fact is contrary to some Rennlist threads.

Sounds like a typo, all torque tubes from the 924 turbo through the last 944 S2 should be the same diameter, and interchangable with the noted exception of the crash protection tabs on the 85.5+ cars in the rear.

My Turbo S runs fine with a 924S torque tube. I have also heard that the tube diameter increased on the S, but certainly the splines on each end are the same.

I picked up a good torque tube on eBay for $70. Much cheaper than r&r bearings

I'm pretty sure the shaft diameter is the same on all of them. As for installing a used one, I would consider how hard the torque tube is to replace and wonder how much life is left in those used bearings. I might put in a used one with a documented 60K miles on it but beyond that I'd hook those bearings out and replace them.

This is funny. I now have that torque tube that Eclou was talking about. I thought the same thing (don't trust old tube - no crash tabs means pre-85.5) and pulled them out.

It seems that this torque tube was a rebuilt one with almost new bearings, or very, very low miles. - I pulled them out tonight.

Wish I would have just installed it and forgot about them, and used my old Torque tube as my test mule for my next major weight loss program.

Oh well, we live and learn.

Thanks again GENE!

What bearing number are stamped on the bearing case?

Quick Reply: The 951 S torque tube was increased to 25.5mm?
