"If the 'list has degraded this far, it's a sad state of affairs. Rennlist exists for questions/answers."
Nah...don't take this wrong. There are questions that sometimes you don't want to ask because the class may have already covered it while you were in the bathroom, or you think you've got it, but aren't quite sure, so you don't raise your hand, because you feel like you might get in the way. We've all felt like that before. This is just intended as a way to make ALL the people feel a little more comfortable asking a question that seems like common stuff. Like it or not, nobody likes to feel like the ONLY one that seems not to get it. I was just there today, in a question about injector ipedance. I felt a bit silly asking a question, that I ended up already knowing the answer too. I just want to use this to be the goofy guy who DID ask, so others don't feel weird finding out. Hell, to me this is what's great about the list. There will be some people answering here that REALLY know thier stuff, but usually speak in "techy code", with acronyms etc. This is the decoder thread.
BTW good FQS question. I hadn't thought of that one yet. I get that one now. Ask away all.
Between you and me, I guarantee that there are some semi knowledgeable folks that would like to know a few things but don't want to look silly. They can PM me, and I'll ask. Like you said, this IS exactly what Rennlist is all about. E

When i first came to rennlist and noticed things such as wideband 02 sensor, AFR, timing etc....people thought i was joking and mocked me.
The more questions i asked, the more "laughter" i caused, peopel just don;t understand what it is like living here when there is NO tuner, NO proper dyno, NO "specialists".......
It's kind of funny, i learnt it the hard way, and now this thread states the opposite.
Another thing is when one false info get's loose, it goes around a circle, people start "spreading the word" and when i mention that "rumor" i get my *** flamed once again......
Weird people here state the opposite.

Well, if you do have a question you still need the answer too, PM me and I'll ask, and take the flame. That's what this thread is for. I am starting to compile a bit of a list. Feel free to add to it. Cheers Hos.

ehall: That is just what i mean, i had to PM rennlisters to ask questions because i was just fed up with what i got in the open forum, which shouldn't happen

Well Hosrom, let's use this to move in a different direction. We'll keep this one really positive, and see if we can't help others who come along. Let's be honest though, we may get a bit of tesing but people always come up with the really good info when someone needs it. All in all this list is damned good, and I'm better off for having found it, wouldn't you agree?

I just figured stuff out on my own. But then again, i am an engineer. I agree. People should be less abrasive. But that is how I feel in general. There is nothing worse then somebody holding knowledge over somebody's head. Most smart people are like that.

Question: Does the 944 turbo or 968 have a dry or wet sump? And I think I know the difference, but if someone could explain them because someone else might not know.
Nice thread idea btw.

Hosrom - you have NEVER been flamed for asking a question. You have been flamed for:
-asking a question, and upon receiving an answer from knowledgable person, contradicting them.
-giving out advice/tech help in areas that you have no experience in
You have been told these reasons many times, but you don't accept them.
Don't msnform people in this thread too, please.

I'm just kidding. That is a valid question. In fact, both Jet Hot and Swain are companies that apply their own concoction of thermal coatings (and some other kinds of coatings as well). You are probably referring to their exhaust coatings.
The differences between Jet Hot and Swain are debatable. Some claim success with both. Swain claims to be superior because it is actually a .0015" thick thermal barrier coating. They claim that others are just thermal paint.
I am not aware of any independent tests comparing Swain to Jet Hot, HPC or the other major coatings.

Oy this is an anti flamming thread so can we bar abuse and fighting as well!!
Oh yes and my stupid question is... I know most people use mixes of various turbo components on the 944 but they all seem to be based around the same parts just with sizes of turbine and housing. I'm completely confused as to what the T04 # range of turbo's are and whether they are the same as the K27/#. Are they just different codes for the same part and if not which is the better range of turbos? Are the K27 range the larger turbos?
Ben
p.s. I hate the attitude of I know something and you don't so I'm better than you!! I have always had a great interest in engines and try to learn new things at every oppertunity but many tuners and others in the industry seem to have the wrong attitude even if your a potential customer! Not all, but a large proportion. It makes me feel great to be able to share the small amount of knowledge to others and help them and its still great now that I know a little more to continue learning. It seems every new group of people you talk to has a new area of experties for you to learn.
The knowledge of how various different performance and tuning parts perform comparatively to one another is an endless learning curve for me having only just joined the forum.

For starters, I AM BETTER THAN YOU!!! Oh wait, no I'm not. Don't take any guff from anyone here or anywhere else. Most people around here like to help out the new guys. In fact, I still consider myself a newb on most issues.
T04 vs. K27. To the best of my knowledge, these monikers designate coldside housings for two different turbo manufacturers, Garrett (T04) and KKK(K27). Our cars come stock with a KKK K26 cold housing. Someone else will have to answer the specific differences between the K27 and T04 housings. Both the K27 and T04 can flow more than our K26. Beyond that, it is very dependent on the hotside and wheel chosen. You would be well served to do some research online or check out the Corky Bell turbo book (you can find it at Borders or Amazon).

Jim I couldn’t agree with you more. I do think the list has gotten very funny here lately. I love it when someone gets involved in a flame war offering head porting opinions and engineering data and then the following weeks asks what o-ringing the head does. Danno copy and pasting google searched information off as his own and giving an elaborate equations like he's a physics professor only to not know some basics of the motronic. Or better yet, someone on the list plotting turbo compressor maps for people and offering to sell turbos yet they’ve NEVER installed/ran an aftermarket turbo (or even injectors for that matter) on a 951? Ironically that same turbo is close to the old Vitesse Stage 1 before the internal modifications. It just goes to show you the differences of what book theory and actual experience will get you. Do you guys see the point we’re getting at?
There’s nothing wrong with not knowing, but once you get a simple answer don’t act like an expert the following week because you read some obscure article or a tuner tells you so. Hosrom, the biggest gripe I’ve always had with you is when you offer an opinion on something, your standard response to an objection is a link to an article or a thread you read about it. Many of us would love to hear you rationalize it yourself. Quite often you passed off wrong information. Granted you’ve come a long way since and you’re still paying for your “innocence” of six months ago. When people come hear for advice, they are looking for real world experience, not links, theory, or fifth hand information. If that’s what you’re passing on, let people know about it first.
