Default How do I remove intercooler pastic shroud?

I got the instructions from Lindsey's racing site and I had all the pieces off except for the two bolts holding the plasting intercooler shroud that you have to get at from the front bumper inside the air inlet. The Lindsey site describes them as 10mm plastic bolts but mine are circular with two small notches in them. It looks like you need a special tool to get them out cause I didn't have anything that would work. Anyone know what I need to get them out?

They should be 10mm. Try using some pliers to get them off and replace them with new ones. There are also two above the IC IIRC. Not sure if you need to pull the front bumper off to remove that piece, I remember getting mine off without removing the bumper because I only had have for a header panel vent.

I don't have pliers that are long enough to reach in, plus there's nothing to grip since the bolt's are circular. I need something to fit the two little notches in the bolts, I guess a previous owner switched these for non-standard bolts since no other instruction manuals refer to them. I got the two screws above the intercooler no problem, it's these last two I can't get at.

I used snap ring pliers(with bumper on)...worked like a charm...ok kind of annoying but I got them off and reused them....no problem.

Used a long extention and a soft 10mm socket, removed the two plastic screws and used some soap to "slip" that plastic shruoud out (by wiggling a bit).

Came off in one piece and no problems.

There just might be a purpose for that shroud, such as managing airflow for more efficient cooling. Come on guys, don't work on your cars while hammered.

I reused mine too. I had a lot of crud in the fins, lots of little rocks. I used three cans of throttle body cleaner to flush out the IC. At first it would come out as black as coffee. Those oil vapors really accumulate over time.

Mine had the plastic 10mm nuts, just like you find in the wheel well liners.

Follow these steps:

1. Open hood

2. Remove Intercooler

4. Drink favortite beer

5. Pull plasting thing real hard

6. Dispose of properly

I would have replaced mine and tried to take it out without damage if I didnt have 931 vents... But the duct blocks the air they let in.
