Thanks, guys. It was a lot of work!

I'm considering building a jig and fabbing some up for sale. I need to get my car (and a few other projects) finished up first!

No I made the best heat shield !!

he he

Yes, :-) looks clean and strong.

Have you still the orginal heat shield to protect the Balence shaft housing?

Why Thomas heat shield looks like it does is:
It goes down to protect the Balance shaft and engine block as well. And goes long way back to proteckt the breather plastic and also the intake from downpipe heat radiation.

Yes, I attached it to the stock "fence" shield as you can see in the 2nd picture.

Wow, it looks like there's a lot of interest in this part!

It will be a while before I can fab some up. I wish I had the time, but I have to finish my 951, track season is here, plus I have a street rod project I need to finish. I'll let you know when I have some.

Thanks,

Jeff, nice looking shield. Although Lars and me was first, and I agree with him that we made the best one hehe!

I`ll post some new photo`s off our finish shield.

BTW; where do you plan on having the oil dip stick with your shield? Doesnt seem to be any room for it at those pictures? It could just be the photo angle..

Default wrapping exhaust pipes

I've always heard that wrapping the exhaust pipes (and crossover pipe) is really hard on the metal and causes it to fatigue and fail very quickly. I think ceramic coating (inside and out) is a better idea.

Thoughts? How long have you guys run your turbos with header wrap?

Thomas - you do know these cars, don't you! Good eye. I had to clearance the left side a bit to fit the dipstick.

aventari - I have not yet run the car with the wrap. I heard that about the accellerated wear, but I'm willing to give it a try, given the high quality of the stainless plumbing. Maybe I shouldn't sell the headers & crosspipe from my parts car, eh?

Meltingpoint is far away, abowe 1500C for the stainless steel exhaust. Wrapping causes higher temp, but also slower cooldown. Some give and take I suppose.

I have run with wrapping all the way including downpipe and 6 layers on the hotside of the turbo for 2 years and a lot track days included. Also heatshield between the turbo and orginal intake manifoild.
By the way, my headers had a 6cm long break, I welded it and I driwe without the expansion section on the first runner (first 951 came without I think).

The heatshield I made for thomas is "second edition" and gives better heat protection than mine bacause it protect a larger area including the engine block.

Ceramic coating off the inside in the exhaust will be better then wrapping off corse..
$$$$$$ Its all about the money..

I checed this out her in norway and the only company who said they could do it wondered how to get the components clean enogh to the inside to garantee the results. And the price was may be for NASA or some other high budget company..
