Thinking of something like this might be cool... especially the reversing feature means I could delete my rear view mirror

A double DIN or an LCD?
I've installed several. Fitting the double DIN in the 944, I'm not sure about though. The installation slot is angeled and might not clear the entire deck.

Here are some pictures of a top of the line, Pioneer AVIC-N1 in a 951:

Here are some of B951S's Excelon:

That is sweet! I meant LCD double din size... I may have to go flip top, but they are more expensive...

I was looking at upgrading my HU unit last week and saw the double din pioneer and kenwood units. the screen on those things is amazing. I took out my spare center console and removed the pocket in the lower din and tried to measure but its hard to tell whether it will fit because of the depth of the bottom DIN being shorter. the pioneer AVIC-D1 needs 7in depth and my best guess is without any carpeting under the console it is still 1/2in too short. I've seen reference to a two part system in which just the double din touch screen gets mounted in the dash and the rest of the system is installed in the glove box but I didn't see a model like that.

Has anyone successfully installed one of thse units in a 944?

Would the unit fit in the lower comparement so the screen does not cover the controls?

Buy a single din dvd/lcd setup..

I have ZERO interest in debating the pros/cons of single vs. double din unit. buy something that makes YOU happy and enjoy your life.

I am trying to understand why it needs to be double din as opposed to single..

I woud like to help you out, but not unless there is a reason, I dosent need to be anything spectacular.. have you found a double din one that you like?
