Finally drove my 19yo's car out of the shop today, so the 951 goes on the lift tomorrow. New suspension is here, so it should be a short run to pull the Bilstein setup and drop the new setup in. Then its a rough ride height/corner balance, then a fine alignment, a final balance, and we're done.

No other major tasks, just lots of the usual brakes/tires/torque check every fastener, etc.

The ba$tards are out to get me this year. Lots of high dollar mods being done over the winter.
I'm screwed for the series win, but at least I'll keep 'em honest.

ehall, it's definitely a track-only issue.

ApKhaos, did you find a set of Konis to return to Paragon? If not, I just cleared up a pair and would be interested in a partial trade towards your old Bilsteins.

Sam,
Sounds like a good plan. I'll PM details on the Bilsteins, and please let me know what you want for your old Koni fronts.

My PM is shut off, please e-mail the details - I'll shoot you a pic of the Konis and we can decide on a value.

Well, if I can't beat Tony on driving skill and car prep abilities, I've gotta find some other advantage.

If anyone is interested, I bought and installed a set of the Racer's Edge billet hubs. Very nice pieces. Haven't used them on the track yet to really test them but I expect no issues.

I also have a used M030 hub if anyone is interested in a spare. PM me.

Nothing like empirical evidence. Is this the smoking gun?

Good info for a 'soon to be' 968 investor....

I believe that you will find this to be a predominant issue in track cars rather than street cars. There are a few reasonable substitute parts that can be had to prevent this before it happens. I believe Racer's Edge sells a stronger "track" hub. I could be wrong on the vendor, but I know that there is definitely a vendor fabbing replacement hubs.

This would be considered pretty unusual for a street driven 944/968. This car was dual duty.
I'm glad you brought this back. It's good for these threads to resurface once a year so that others get some of the info that some of us have forgotten about.

Yes, Racer's Edge and another company called Stuttgart Performance (in Lexington, KY) sell billet hubs. I've used the RE units for 2 track weekends with no problems.

If you're not tracking the car, the factory hubs should last forever. Street driving doesn't put nearly the same loads on the hub as hard cornering w/ sticky tires.

If youre referring to the quote regarding the M030 and regular hubs being the same - that is incorrect. They are not. The M030 hubs are a few mm longer and the additional material is all on the face (where the lug studs are). Ive had them side by side, and its a subtle difference. At the time, I figured there would be someone that would claim they are the same, so I thought about taking a picture to show the difference, but never got around to it....

Don's right. A picture won't help a great deal, unless it is a side by side comparison with some kind of scale grip in the shot. The difference in width is around 3mm.

Bottom line is that an M030 hub will fit fine on a non-M030 spindle........but the brake rotor will be 3mm out of alignment with the caliper. Reverse is true for the non-M030 hum on M030 spindle.
