I just 'bench tested' the relay and it checks fine,
The temp sensor test fine, no short from the temp sensor to the relay.
This is really weird.

Greetings! I just purchased my first Porsche last week, 86 951 and I have the same problem you've described. I don't know how to bench test the relay, and I assumed that it was bad until I read your post. Upon shutting the car off, I could hear the pump running. I returned about 1/2 hr later and it was still running! So I started the car 3-4 more times, ran it a few mins, and the pump would continue to run until I unplugged the relay or pulled the fuse. I let it run for 5 min each time before I'd pull the relay or fuse out. What did you find out on your issue to fix it?
Thanks,
Scott

Andrew: Did you try rotating the sensor connector for the turbo?
Sometimes, after i wash the engine bay, that connector would move and the pump would keep running and wouldn't shut-off.
Try rotating that connector........that fixed mine.

When the pump is running for an extended amount of time, pull the connector off the temp sensor... If the pump stops running, the problem is the temp sensor. The temp sensor gives a ground signal to the relay circuit, turning on the relay... If the wire connecting to the temp sensor is bare in spots, grounding against the engine, then it will run forever.

I did all the above suggestions, the pump would still run.
So I pulled the relay, resoldered all the connections on the PC board
then 'bench tested' It would intermittently fail to time out. Looked
like the relay was sticking. I removed the relay and cleaned the contacts
and so far so good.
I would still like to buy a working one for a spare

I went to napa and looked at a bunch of relays and matched the circut diagram. I have know idea what its from but it does the same thing as OEM and it was like $10.

If you open the relay, you will find a PC board with several transistors, diodes, caps an IC and a small relay.
Its just a fixed delay off timer. I was gonna build my own before I paid the $165 that I was quoted
