Will This Wheel/Tire Combo Work on 86?
Howdy,
I have been using the search feature to answer many questions and believe I have nailed down the correct package. Still puzzled by the correct spacer size and hope the vets can suggest the correct package.
Currently a 1986 Turbo w/ 16" Fuchs
Want to install 996 C4 wheels in the following size.
Front 7x17, 55mm BS w/ 205-50-17 tires
Rear 9x17, 55mm BS w/ 255-40-17 tires
Since the Fuchs have a 23.3mm BS and the 996 have a 55mm BS do i just need 31.7mm spacers all around?
I read in a few post that 21mm front and 28mm rear spacers would work correctly. Does this make sence?
Thanks for the help,
MeanGreen

I think with et55 wheels you have to use 28mm spacers all around. You also have to change the wheel studs to 72mm long. There is a writeup on danno's website http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/

I have the exact same size wheels on my 86 951, but mine are Cup 2's so the offset is ever so slightly smaller. However, the difference between 55mm and 52.3 is VERY small. as such, the correct spacer size would still be 21mm in front and 28mm in the rear.
From an earlier post...
Wheel Shopping List for mounting late model wheels on 86 951
The wheel offsets are stamped right on the wheel. As for putting post-'86 (late-offset 52.3mm) wheels on your '86 car (23.3mm early-offset) here's a parts list:
FRONT WHEELS
#901.331.671.01 (10) ten 72mm wheel bolts (stock is 45mm) ~ $5/ea
#477.501.701 (2) two 21mm wheel spacer (came stock on rear of '82-85 944NA) ~$15/ea
REAR WHEEL
#901.331.671.01 (10) ten 72mm wheel bolts (stock is 45mm) ~ $5/ea
#930.331.611.04 (2) two 28mm wheel spacer (used on rear of 911-turbo) ~20/ea
OPEN-ENDED LUG-NUTS $20 total
The whole set-up should cost you about $150. When you want to put your stock wheels on, just remove the spacer and use the open-ended lug-nuts.
BTW, prices shown will vary as these are several years old. I sourced all of my parts from www.oklahomaforeign.com.

Howdy,
The deal for the 996 C4 wheels and tires package fell through, so i am getting the wheels only. Looking for suggestions on tire size for these wheels and best brand to buy.
