Default S2 or 968 6 speed gearbox?

Can those in the know offer opinions please. No pie in the sky stuff, only those in the know, its a big call. I have an option on each at a reasonable cost, both are non-LSD, I would eventually convert which ever using a quaife. I like the idea of the shorter gearing on both, and the bigger crown and pinion on the S2. Just not sure which to go with! How have people dealt with the speed sensing on the 968? Cheers!

Andrew,

Clark Fletcher at Clarks-garage, put one of the above in his 2.8. You might ask him. He answers very quickly. I've seen threads there, in the performance area, that address this. E

I do know from Clark that the 968 swap is very difficult but he did do it. I would go with the S2 personally because it would be simple and effective.

The 968 gearbox is 14 kiols heavier than the 951 box. I think I'd go a different route and rebuild the 951 with shorter gearing.

Hi EVO968,
Saw your post over at 968.net. Awesome car man.
Two questions.
1. What did you do to the car to remove so much weight ?
2.Can you explain more about your camber mods ?

Thanks, oh please post pics here for everyone to share

Hi,

I did the swap to the 968 lsd transaxel to my 951 and I have to say that it turns the car into another animal all together. The gear spacing is very tight, keeps the engine in its power band and the turbo spooled. It masks very well the fact that with the stock transaxel, you sometimes have to wait for the engine to catch up to your request for power. As for the swap, it is not difficult at all as long as you have the correct parts such as the half shafts and the shifter bar. Only issue I still have to resolve is making the speedometer read again as my car does not have abs.

That's the biggest issue I have thought of. What are your plans for that?
