Default Huge drop in gas milage

Any ideas on this?

Recently switched an engine out of an 86 Turbo(replaced with an 88 engine.)

The new engine gets really bad milage, the brake assist tends to be weak, and the turbo is a lttle slow in spooling. It is running rich--sometimes black smoke.

I have had the intake off a bunch of times to check for leaks, replaced the blow off valve, and now I thought about maybe checking the wastegate.

Any comments appreciated,

Thanks

Cyrus

What on the old engine was kept as far as FPR, Damper, O2 sensor, DME temp sensor, etc?

Are you running the correct boost for the chips in the car? Perhaps a leaky injector?

I have the exact symptoms except mine spools just fine, weak assist, bad gas milage(compared to a 951)and is running rich. I have now figured it out yet, it winter and the car is sleeping.

The injectors were changed to the 88's simply because the I wanted the newer ones--the FPR had recently been replaced while the 86 engine was in the car--the damper is from the 86 as well as the o2 and temp sensors.

One other thing--lacks torque at low end--not that these cars have alot--though when the boost comes on it is strong.

thanks

When my O2 sensor went out, it cut my mpg in half. Sooty black deposits on the driveway after cold starts was another giveaway.
