Talking Gauge scans: who wants 'em?

Hi Guys and gals,

I have some photoshop scanned dials i'm just putting the finishing touches to, and I thought some of you guys might like them to do some custom dials.

They are 180mph dials, with KMH in the centre. Turbo rev counter but with the turbo gauge removed (I run a seperate gauge). I have also added some graphics in the file to match the other gauges I have, along with a nice little message on the tacho!

It would be best if you open and edit them (with your own custom background and graphics) in photoshop itself as I have the parts split into seperate layers for ease of editing.

The way i've done it in the past, is to simply print them on hi-quality photo paper, the thinner the better (to get the idiot lights through), but gloss finish, and then glue them in position on the existing dials. I've added some markers in the file to make mounting easier.

One problem though..... Who's gonna host them for me!? I don't seem to remember how to access my members page! The 4 scans are approximately 17Mb each.

I'll have them finished off by the end of the day (It's midday over here, and I have some other stuff to do too), so just let me know!

Have fun!

I'd love to have a tacho without a red area and no boost gauge.

E-mail me on sweanders@gmail.com and I'll host them!

I haven't kept up on the state of guage face mods. Have we found a reliable way to remove and re-install the needles? If so, I'm interested in doing the mod and maybe even having some sort of free instruction site on how to do it - I do love the DIY'er approach. Webspace is not a problem.

Good question F18Rep, I have had a fear of misaligning the needles or breaking the gauge all together.

Oops! Some problems with the scaling. I remember things didn't go straightforward the first time either! I'll work on it tonight. Sorry for the delay.

There is another thread in which the url was posted for the scans. I found it during a search.

However, I found that the MPH did not match accurately after 80 mph and by 180, it was well off. That being said, Mike did offer to rework a scan of my gauge face to make sure its accurate.

Dan, Did you send that scan over at all? Once I've finished rewiring the TR8 I've got some time!

The scans as they are, and instructions are here:

Not yet Mike as I've been out of town and didn't get to it before I left. I'll see if I can get to it this weekend otherwise I'll be out for another two weeks.

Is there anyone else with a 180 speedo that can scan it for Mike? On the current scan, the KMH line up fin, however the MPH scale is a little off.

Or even a 160 aswell. That way everyone can get in on the action!

I need flatbed scans, not just a digital photo BTW. Accuracy is all here!

Mike- how are the 85.5+ warning lights handled that are backlit? I know the aluminum backing my whiteface set is cut out so the indicators will show through on the fronts.
