I think you could easily pull a mold off an existing one and then vacuform one out of polycarbonate for it. It's just there to keep fingers and other **** from getting caught up in there, wouldn't have to be all that thick. Acrylic would in my opinion be too brittle and it isn't all that great with temps over 200 or so degrees anyway whereas polycarbonate is.

Just put some decent bushings in it like they have in the original part where the bolts go through it. Better still replace em with something like Dzus fasteners although that would require modification on the block etc where the bolts currently go. Nothing insurmountable but it wouldn't be dirt cheap either. It would definitely speed up belt tension checks with quarter turn fasteners of some sort and while a bit ricey, it would be good for at least a quick visual inspection.

Doesn't transparent plastic typically yellow pretty badly with exposure to heat?

It can depending on the type, although to be honest I don't know how high the temperatures get there - it's probably among the coolest locations on the engine, with airflow hitting it almost constantly and most of the heat going up off the block and head. I imagine lexan would do just fine.

Yes and no - yes you're getting the radiant heat from the thermal exchange between the coolant and the air flow, but the point is there's air flow. This would tend to keep the temps a bit lower I'd think. The worst case would be in stop-go where the engine temp is soaring and the only thing running are the electric fans intermittantly. But I don't think that's much of a deal with Andy's car. . .

Ok, so does anyone have access to the kind of equipment needed for product? I imagine the second hand cover would be pretty cheap to acquire.
