Default Need cat/testpipe

I need to get a good cat for my car. I know mine is plugged, will NOT pass our emissions test and I know that I need a new one. Does anyone have one they don't need anymore? I would come get it or just pay for shipping, let me know. Also, I am STILL looking for a cat bypass to run normally in the car, does ANYONE have one for sale? If so, just give me an e-mail to Michael_Radak@hotmail.com with all the details, price, condition, and miles. Thanks everyone.

Yea but you still don't get much performance because the pipe is 2x walled so that inner one usually crimps down to actually have a smaller area then a new by-pass pipe. Plus I need a cat to pass emissions.

A good exhaust shop will be able to handle the double wall tubing without a problem. I just had a local shop I use for all my non-Porsche specific work remove my cat and there was a very noticeable seat of the pants improvement. Turbo spools up way quicker now.

Are you saying that you only to pass a visual?

I dont understand how a gutted stock system will do you any better than a clogged stock system for an inspection?

I guess the topic title is a little confusing, do you really need a cat, or are you just looking for a test pipe? Of course, a good exhaust shop should be able to fab up a removable cat/test pipe setup if you must pass emissions, but if you don't have emissions just get the cat removed. FYI, it only cost me $50 to get mine removed.

NO, I need to get a good cat from someone so I can pass emissions, on a roll test & visual. Then I also would like to get a testpipe for the rest of the time. So pretty much, 2 different items I would like, stock/good cat and testpipe, if anyone has either of these, let me know.

That makes it much clearer. I would say you should gut your stock cat for your test pipe...and then as you had mentioned look for a used cat section. Are you not interested in running 100 or 200 cell cats?

100, 200 cell cats? Well, I don't know that much about cats, so could you tell me more about what you mean? I just want a good cat that will get my pass emissions too, it doesn't need to be new.

They are just more free-flowing cats. You would need to have them welded into your pipes...or a 3" pipe of your choosing. 200 cell would most likely pass emissions testing..but I am unsure of how much it would cost to have a pipe with the cat section welded into built.

I had a track pipe on mine when I bought it, it was close but would not pass the test. So I bought a used one on e-bay for $100 + shipping(@$50), and put it on. As long as they are not blocked or busted up, the cats are pretty much bullet proof. The exhaust standards for European cars are much more rigid that most of the US, this is why they have to utilize more palladium (SP?), and they are more expensive. It's a pretty inexpensive gamble, and it worked for me.

I've got a cat pipe off of my 89. I took it off last fall to install the 3" SFR system.
It was good when I took it off. I can't imagine it will be cheap to ship.
(large and heavy). It's yours if you want it.

I have a used CAT with the (cat-forward) pipe still attached; from an '87 951. Used it last June for Pennsylvania inspection and it passed. I'm switching to an SFR exhaust so I don't need it. I was going to put it on Ebay soon but if you make me a fair offer and pick it up, I'd forgo that step. I live in Pittsburgh so am pretty close to Akron.
