Default new to 951

Hi all, great forum!

I recently purchased a 1986 951 and am new to this car, I promised myself I would leave her stock but coming from a modded 930 that’s just not an option

So here are a few newbie questions:

-How does is the lag of a k27-6 compare to a k26-6?
-what’s the best route to follow for obtaining 300 rwhp with the k26-6 and a minimum of mods but with a reliable engine (least possible lag)

are there any plug&play sets out there?

Both good and reliable vendors, good products, and good customer service. I recommend using just one vendor for upgrades, don't mix and match as this makes diagnostics much easier.

Basic 300rwhp approach:

Chips
MAF/MAP
Wastegate
Injectors
18-20psi

All with stock turbo and internals.

Bret (Ski) pretty much nailed it with brands.......

Injector sizes would be 55lbs (Siemens or Bosch for drop in replacemet)

Wastagate, either Tial or LR (no performance difference, mostly price and opinion there)

Another good, reliable vendor would be Tim at Speed Force Racing (www.speedforceracing.com)

I see most of you guys mention sticking with one vendor for parts. My question is does this apply mainly to Chips, Turbos, Maf kits...or every mod.

By this question I am asking if it is suitable to go with a LR turbo-back exhaust, Vitesse Stage 3 package, Tial wastegate, Apexi EBC?

I am pretty sure you guys mean just main products like sticking with one company for MAF, Turbo, and Chips...but wanted to check.

You wont hit 300RWHP with the K26/6. Danno tried, IIRC he hit 295 and then it uh, blew up.

There are however quite a few people driving around with 18PSI which is fairly well up there in terms of RWHP. And great spool too

The above combos will get you over 310-315rwhp and over 320/torque at 15psi on pump gas all day long. Our track car has almost one of the same mods as above, a bit more in MAF, but it has 351rwhp/348 torque at 17psi on race gas.

Despite what people may think my turbo was check by the mechanic and its the stock one. I put 301 down after SAE corrections on a dynojet. People will always argue about numbers and this and that. I think 300rwhp for a 26/6 while possible really runs the life of the turbo down. I suggest buying a bigger turbo and run it at lower boost pressure for more reliable hp.

I have been saying this for a very long time. Its so true. Try and find one or two vendors at most and when it comes to major things just fine one vendor and stick with them. The reason I had the success I did with the 26/6 IS because I have one vendor doing everything..plain and simple. The fresh motor and turbo rebuild dont hurt either.

Am I missing something or is the Vitesse kit incomplete in comparison to the LR kit? The Lr kit includes an exhaust, wastegate, injectors, MBC, chip, MAF, Mafterburner, turbo...etc..

The Vitesse is turbo, MAF, and piggyback...

Any insight would be great. Sorry for all the questions in threads..I am just trying to learn all I can as quickly as I can.

Vitesse kit include chips(which are some of the best around) but now shown in the kit price is software updates on the SMT6, updates on chips(you return the old ones) if John's research turns up something better. John passes on his savings on injectors and other things if needed or will point you to a vendor if he does not have what you need.

Dave, through in house items, can simply offer a discount on some items. The exhaust is an aluminized exhaust system, not stainless, but still very nice. You have to have a good core wastegate to turn in also or and extra $300 applies.

I'm friends with both vendors and you will not find better people to deal with and knowledge on their products for our cars.

Also look into the GURU's 364 kit. I have it on my car and the power is amazing. Pushing around 345RWHP at 18psi

I'm waiting for the Stage 2 kit from Vitesse. I also have Lindsey's 3" mild steel exhaust waiting to be installed. I also have the Guru wastegate. I'm expecting ~320rwhp@15psi and full boost@3000rpm. I'm not sure if the wastegate will be sufficient, but that will only give me an excuse to get the 38mm Tial.
