This seems a little out of place... But i had a similar problem like yours,it was a squeak or whistle would come then go. Turned out that it was my A/C compressor bearing. It finally grinded away one day and a ear piercing squeal came from my car and it wouldn't run. Had to replace the whole A/C compressor (400$). Just a heads up in case thats your problem... Sounds a lot like a vacuum leak though.

Hello again,

Here's an update. It was the heater valve (it is close to the firewall). My mechanic replaced it and the whistling is gone... I have the old one in a plastic bag, and may take a picture and post...
