lost my key

Maybe, helps if you know where the dealership that sold the vehicle new. If not it's possible they can cut a key from the vin number, but it's not cheap, and you have to prove you are the owner of the vehicle (title would help, registration if it's not locked in the glove box). DMV can issue another registration for a fee. The other option is to pull the trunk lock and take it to a locksmith, or pay a locksmith to open your car, and then key from trunk lock.
Don't ask me how I know all of this. By the way for an extra couple of bucks, get 2 keys while your at it.

"Hmmm maybe I should make a copy of my key now while I still have it "
Bingo!
Here's another piece of trivia. - I was involved in an accident in my N/A, and bought back the car at auction. It had an auction title, even though I was the owner previously, Porsche will not cut a key for a car with a salvage title.

Go To Home Depot. They have a VW key blank that will work! The end is a round black rubber/plastic material. It does not say Porsche but if you lose it they won't know to bo to the Porsche in the parking lot!

Early 944 locksets were used in VW's Audis and Porsches. The passenger side door handle, this is the only one has a # stamped on the bottom. Any locksmith can cut a new key with the code as long as the core and tumblers have not been replaced.
